As a rule, when should a falcon start incubating the eggs properly?? Do they wait until full clutch is laid or start earlier??

Hello Karl,
The majority of our pairs of gyrs and peregrines lay clutches of four,
incubation proper starts in the majority of cases on the third egg,

Regards Mike.

It seems my older birds leave it longer before they start incubating than the younger ones do.

The older birds normally start on the second to last egg and the younger ones can start from the first but normally the second egg.

I've had 2 falcons do that. Both peregrines. One an imprint, the other a misprint. My peales will go down somewhere between egg 3 and 4. All seem to hatch within 24 hrs of each other. The anatums always go down on #3 and lay #4 three days later. Their hatching dates reflect that too. I've had a few 5 egg layers. One went down on 3, laid number 4 three days later and 5 in three more days. They hatched like that with 6 days between chicks.

The two I had used to lay 10 eggs a year just like you described. Fortunately I had other birds to put them underneath to start the eggs.
