This is the only ornate in Spain. Hopefully the ornate will be more common soon. This year we bred three birds, but new pairs are getting into breeding conditions and in a few years we will import to Europe more individuals.

Would love to get some more pictures.
Could you please email me some pics in better resolution,
would really like to have one ornate as a desktop wallpaper.
How much do they cost?
What does the male fly at (weight and quarry)?
All the best and "Falknersheil" from Germany,

Hi Eagle Man, yep JHE and SHE are amazing birds indeed. Just that for JHE, they are now endangered because of habitat loss. They only breed and live in several conservation forests and in some national parks as well. Sadly, the government did not give license or approval for the specimen to leave the country for breeding purposes. Mean while, the habitat are losing and they are defeated by CHE and Indian Black Eagle in terms of territory.
Some individual person keep them as their pet, but they do nothing which is a shame! They do not know about falconry, even raptor breeding. So the bird will just gonna rotten without having the opportunity to save their species from extinction.
For pics, here they are:

Sulawesi HE

p/s: I want to correct my opinion about Ornate HE, actually it is not available here. I was wrong, but we have one small species of Hawk Eagle which is maybe as big as Ornate, that is Blyth's HE.

Are there breeding projects producing ornate or black hawk-eagle for falconry?

Hi Java_Falconer,
Good stuff mate, always been fascinated by hawk-eagles. I'm pretty sure the hawk in the second pic is not a hawk-eagle at all however, but instead a Honey-Buzzard of some sort - check out the beak and the lack of a bony shield above the eye, and you'll see it makes sense. It's not as bad an ID miss as one may think at a first glance though, since many Honey Buzzards seem to have developed plumage patterns & colours that mimic that of the Hawk-eagles found in their wintering habitat, possibly to try and stay away from being attacked themselves by other raptors. (Doesn't help them much during the breeding season here in Sweden though... our Northern goshawks don't know what a Hawk-Eagle looks like!).
Cheers,
/Magnus

Tottaly right, Magnus, the second bird is an Honey Buzzard !
Regarding to hawk eagles, is too bad that no hawk eagle breed naturally in Europe, considering thet the japaneseMHE, breed in similar climatic condition as those of Scandinavia !

This is a photo of a cassini nest that i took in July 2006 in Peru.
We do breed ornates and black spizaetus every year, in 2007 we got six chicks. Oteroīs El Huayco will breed more this year, hopefully.
The ornate who is now in Spain is a incredible beautiful bird, but hard to train. In July we will bring some tyrannus to Europe after AInfluenza ban stops.
I observed a blyths when I was in Singapur birdpark, and I think they will be as good as tyrannus. They have hughe feet and looks like a very poweful bird.

Well, I'd be happy "just" to fly a 3 lb Scandinavian gos  , but the Japanese MHE certainly seems to be able to cope with the cold and the snow.
If they can handle Hokkaido in wintertime, they should be able to cope with most of Scandinavia!
Cheers!

Ornate plumage colours are only white, black, grey and orange...
How they can be more coloured than peacoks ?
