19th May 2007 will be the 50th anniversary of the death of Captain Charles W.R. Knight, M.C., F.R.P.S., F.Z.S., who made an inestimable contribution to British and to world-wide falconry. It seems to me fitting to recognise this here, and it would be wonderful if people can post their impressions and any recollections of Chas Knight as a remembrance. There's some information and some photographs already on the Web here (http://www.esmondknight.org.uk/Captain%20Knight.htm).

There's also a practical need; I read here (http://www.ifojpj.org/index.htm) that Jemima Parry-Jones (Captain Knight's great-niece) is to return from the United States, due to irreconcilable differences between her and the sponsors of the South Carolina-based Centre she left the UK to participate in. IFOJPJ is appealing for funds and for help getting her birds back to the UK and creating a new place for them to live; I've asked them for further information as to where in the UK this is intended to be, and I'll post any details they provide me. If anyone feels they could get involved in any way, this should enable them to get in touch.

Sorry to disappoint the cynics :yawinkle: but I have no connection with JPJ nor with any organisation - I'm just a genuine (armchair) enthusiast who happens to have been much moved by the experiences of Captain Knight, Phillip Glasier, and many others (Brenda Cox, Kent Durden, Mike Tomkies, ...) whose accounts of their eagles and other birds I've read. Obviously it's entirely up to each individual whether they get involved/give to JPJ's latest endeavour, but as regards Chas Knight, well, it costs nothing to post experiences or thoughts and I think makes us better people to give this kind of appreciation to those who have helped to make falconry and bird conservation what it is today...
