Wish Gordon ramsey would f***off , what is it about this guy complete prat.
I actually love the F Word and Ramsays Kitchen Nightmares. I recorded last nights and have coincidentally just finished watching it. There was only a fleeting glimpse of the hawking, but the quarry was hare and the bird was certainly an eagle, the 2 seconds on footage made ID hard, at a guess, it looked like a goldyxsteppes. Guess we'll see next week.

He is???? I like him.....though have to admit I've never met him. He calls a spade a spade and doesnt mince about like half the chefs and atleast brings his children up to know what they are eating. He is good at his job, sucessful, adaptable in career, opinionated......whats not to like?
so he swears a little:rolleyes:

Has anyone seen the advert for the F word for next week??
Gordon Ramsey looks to be hunting Rabbit or Hare with a Goldie!!?
I only got a quick look before it was finished....... who bird was it? have they veted the filming to make sure Falconers are shown in the correct light???
I know things like this can be good for us! but they can also make us look like idiots with the incorrect editing... sorry for being paranoid, but I worry about those grey people who shout when they dont know what they are seeing..
ie the poor little bunnie get nailed by a goldie!

He seems to be on the tv all the time , every other show is about cooking, sorry it just does my head in , reality shows, big brother , cookery shows , i tend to watch sport , [football] wildlife , documentrys, films etc, all the other c*** you can keep, my misses watches soaps every day of the week , even she moanes how rubbish they are , but she still watches them , national geographic does it for me everytime, cheers, mark.

just caught a glimpse myself - think it was a goldie?
Pretty sick that I missed it this week as they were two minutes down the road from me! Last year one of the farmers where I have permission said that Gordon Ramsay had been to the village and low and behold he was visiting our Sunny Wales to pick up "some of the finest lambs in the country"
thought so! it just kinda caught my eye if u get what i mean. it looked goldie coloured. thanks for the confirmation elly :D
Yeah, not 100% sure by any means that it is goldie x steppes, but it didnt look pure goldie either.. Interesting to see it anyway.. I like the periodic rabbit recipes on the F Word, we've got a bit of hare in the freezer, be nice to get a good hare recipe, as you're hard pressed to find one these days.

I disagree, obviously until the program is aired we dont know its take, but I would guess it shows Falconry in a positive light and assuming the big Harris can catch a Hare it'll go into the pot.
Very positive for Falconry I would say, hope someone does invite him to the Falconry Festival... Paul didnt you say you needed someone to man the BBQ???

He is the most successfull, and most influentual person in his field. He obviously knew he'd get S**T (literally) for the horse meat, and his campaign fo veal and now for falconry. He does not need the money or the publicity but he is prepared to stand up for what he believes in. He will be a great target for the ALF PETA ect but he has the balls to stand up and shout about what he believes, easey for any of us to do here not so easy for a celeb like him - so I say fair play and I admire him for that.

oo elly was right then :D she guessed goldie x steppes
great to hear! nice to see a bird going up and looking himself or a kill rather than being thrown of the fist when the owner sees a hare in a field corner :D
i think possibly the whole idea was that the kill wasn't shown fully so not to disturb and put of viewer off the idea of falconry. it didn't look that great to some off us because the footage didn't show the full chase and kill but to others it will be less off putting!

Ha, thanks for confirmation Matt, i wasnt convinced it was pure goldie.
I thought it was a bit naff to be honest, i mean, dont get me wrong, nothing really wrong with it, but no footage of the actual flight or kill. But yeah, it was fine, bird looked in good enough nick, and i got what i wanted which is a recipe for hare!

To be honest it wasnt the best flight I had ever seen, but for public consumption it was perfect.
I am glad to see that he still eats from the head, as it took about 5 kills to instill that into him.
I was quite shocked when I saw him, as I hadnt been told that he was going to on the box.
But I am pretty proud, and glad that I appear to have made the right chioce as to where he went.
George is a good guy, and runs hedges hawks, in cornwall, from a hotel on about the only hill in the area, and I have some fotos of fiddich specking out in clear blue skys.

And i would agree that for public viewing, it was about right. Just from a falconry point of view, would have liked to have seen the flight and kill.

WOW, WOW, WOW, steady there Barney. steady. lol.
great pics Matt. stunning bird mate.
i felt the clip was too short, not enough action and most of the flight was missing.
however, as Matt pointed out, as it was for the general public it was neat. no gory stuff just a bit of what they do.
remember its only us who really really want to see every second of a flight and chase and kill.
well spotted Elly for that really good guess, lol.
you must have burned out your video recorder stopping, pausing and rewinding so much, lol. ;-)
no harm done and nice to see falconry portrayed in a positive way.
( did anyone catch the comment about the harris being a falcon)??

It was short, but as everyone has said, was great for "Joe public".
It was good that Ramsay didn't mind showing just how much he was 'wary' of the birds too, helping show really that this is not for just anyone.
His passion about it and talking of it being the "right" way to hunt could only have done good things.
That hare recipe sounded pretty good too. Never tried hare, how is it compred to rabbit? Not a meat I'm into rabbit, prefer me venison. :)

What i actually said was "Thats not a falcon, the harris hawk actually shares attributes with both the hawk and the buzzard families.."
And my brother said "Shut up, Elly"

I can put up with hime being called a mongrel, but pathetic mess, comeon.
He was flown far harder while I had him than all of the garden ornament eagles that you see advertised on the ibr and elsewhere.
I spoke to about 30 people today that are falconers and they didnt know the difference, so how was gordon ramsey to know. I know for a fact that his present owner would have said that it was a bald eagle if he had been asked to!

Thanks he was a mess when I got him, looked like he'd been used as a yard brush, took 4 imping sessions to get him ready for the field (that would be left wing, right wing, and tail in 2 sessions) he got that used to being held in one position that I used to have to prod him to wake him up, when we were done.
I didnt do his initial training, that was done by one of my co-workers and he was initialy trained to fly in a wind machine, (he was used for the film alexander), He was a bit of a froot loop when I took him on, but with time, and varied flying and hunting he came around, and was the only eagle that I have ever picked up with one of ben longs sorry ass machine stiched falcon gloves.

maybe they called it one on purpose so it didn't make it a complicated to explain (at the center i used to work at we occasionally did this with hybrid falcons) and it also didn't put to much emphasis on hybrids within the falocnry world which isn't a BAD thing bearing in mind some people want them banned!.i don't think it was bad at all calling it a goldie.

Matt, from the short footage that was shown, the bird looked to be the real deal. Sorry to mention it, but it must have been hard to pass him on.

Very harsh and unneccessarily so. I was already convinced that it wasnt pure goldie, but it made me think no less of the bird. The bird was in good feather and did the job desired, and although i dont normally think Goldyxsteppes are that handsome, the bird looked good. Certainly a long way off a "pathetic mess of hybrid scum".

a bit strong mate aint it??
i thought the bird was in very good condition and it obvioulsy caught a hare so i would think its far from a pathetic mess of hybrid scum.
besides joe public watching that will still think that the next buzzard they see is a golden eagle. i dont think they will pay that much attention to detail.

I met Gordon Ramsay briefly the month before last, he was filming for the show thats the subject of this thread.
He was doing some cooking for the District Nurses.
Bit surly but not like on Hells kitchen
I enjoyed the show the other night, comes across in a more positive light when hes not abusing people.
Bit like me

Mmmm! We didn't actually see the catch. Wouldn't be the first time a tv producer staged something. Or am I just getting too cynical as I get older.
Bird was in good nick though

Harder than choosing to live 130 miles away from the wife let me tell you, I nearly told the guy that I had changed my mind when he turned up, I just couldnt see him sat on a block for 2 or 3 years, after all the fun we had had over the previous 3 seasons.
When he came on the tele the other night, and I saw him fly it made me feel excited, and proud, over the last 2 days all it has done is depress me, wish Id never watched it.

If it's not too personal a reason (so tell me to mind my own business) but you are obviously very upset at not having him any more, why did you sell him?

Work commitments, meant that I wouldnt have the time to fly him like I had been, and lack of suitable land where I am based cocked it up aswell, didnt want to get falconry a bad name when through frustration at lack of quarry he eventualy decided that it might be a good idea to broaden his horizons, and find a cat or similar.
Basicaly I could not do him justice, and I will not keep any bird that I cannot do right by, just for the sake of it, it aint fair on them, me or the wife, (who gets the brunt of my frustrations unfortunatly, although I get to take them out on here aswell:yawinkle: )
He is a cracking bird, and in different (unchanging) circumstances he would have stayed with me till one of us died, but I have to pay the mortgage, and put food on the table, and he could do neither with my current workload, so off he went, and I get to keep my memories, and some fotos that I keep for myself, that remind me of what I took on and what he turned out to be!
Hope that explains it better!

that is such a shame:cry: but I'm glad you put that on the forum as some people who may be thinking of getting an eagle might just think twice.
Let's hope the new owner continues to fly him as well as you did.

no just how you feel i had to sell my yorkshire show winning fell pony because i was going to have a baby and so wouldnt have time to ride him i felt it wasnt fair for him to stand about in a field, i had had him from a foal and trained him myself.i didnt even get much money for him as i just wanted a good local home for him but they only kept him a few weeks and then sold him.i have never seen him since and it would probably break my heart if i did as we had spent such good times together.i just have to hope that it was for his own good but it still hurts
