here is a picture of the little girl. She is a really nice bird, ment to be flying for displays, and later, when she becomes mature, she goes into a breeding programme for this rare eagle.
also a few pictures of a 3 year old bald eagle female I fly, she is my little baby.

well have only trained a short while with her, and she really needs to moult, so we are just about to put her in aviary, and then take her in winter again-
She flies at about 5900gram. She is just being flown from these wood bows to fist and back. She used to get maybe about an hour a day just free by her self in the field, and then being picked up after that.
She is a quite agressive bird some days, but other days she is sweetheart.
She is being fed on quality quail and chicks and rats.
We hope in the future to get a male, and put her down for breeding, only flying her until then.
but massive bird, the feet and especially the beak, is gigantic. It is fun to work with this very rare eagle , but she is trained as with the bald eagle.
the bald flies free, and soares, but as it is still early season for the diaplay eagles, they do not have much musles on them, and it takes ages to really build up muscle. I think that is propably the hardest birds to get really fit. eagles that is.
cheers,
Rasmus

My word!! Those birds are huge! They are also very beautiful, though. Do Stellars take any other quarry other than fish? Please excuse my ignorance, but I dont know very much at all about them. The pictures are terrific. How old are they both?

they feed mainly on fish, but are also scavengers, and will eat any carcass they find I should think. I am sure they might also take some mammels if there is not a great abundance of salmon. But fish is their main quarry.
they are both juveniles, both 3 years old.
cheers,
Rasmus

I've worked with a young male, but he was sent to a breeding program, so I didn't had the chance to play with him much... But he was a great bird!
Good luck with yours, keep us posted!!

... that is one of Josef Hiebeler's bird being launched at Castle Rosenburg in Austria. He also breeds them. They are flown there almost every day in free flight and are allowed to enjoy the thermals. The large female weighs almost 10kg.
