Hello,
can someone say me, when the imprintimg process is finish?
I ask, because my young falcon is still at his parents. I want to take him away from his parents, that he will be not nervous and not shy if I will fly him. He sould be a calm/quite falcon.
But a few years later I want to breed with him (but no artificial insemination) When is the earliest date to take him away from his parents. So that he isn't imprinted of me but of his parents.
Hope you understand what I would say.
Regards
Daniel

Hi Daniel!
Calculate for how long a falcon is fed by its parents in the nature. This will give you an idea about the imprinting period.45 days in the nest + 25 days after fledging till first kill. So,for your male Peregrine it will be 70 days in total.

If you choose to take your falcon away from its parents before it is hard penned you will gain nothing :!:
All you will succed in creating is a screaming malimprinted eyass :!:
You make a social imprint or you train a parent reared falcon.
There is no middle ground that you would want to stand on for very long.
There are no shortcuts withot paying a high price in the end :!:

OK. That is evident !
In the past I have always taken the young bird away from the parents if they was hard penned. I've thought if I take him away with 30 or 40 days he is already imprinted to his parents and if I take him early away he will be calm und not shy.
I've thought if I take him earlier away he is easier to fly as a pure parent reared falcon, but if you say imprint or parent reared and no middle , then I will let him by parents until he is hard penned.
Best Regards and thank you for good information

The best success I've had is to either let the adults hatch the eggs or put them in at around 4 days old. I leave the eyeas peregrines in for 60 days though taking one at 8 or 10 days earlier doesn't seem to hurt. All 4 of my females are copulating falcons. I have here 2 which were hatched and raised to 60 days by their parents. The other 2 went in at 4 days old. One was left for 60 days the other was taken at around 50.
