Hi all, I am sorry to report that Brian Walton, falconer and researcher
at the Predatory Birds Center at the University of Santa Cruz has passed
away. He suffered a stroke yesterday and died this morning shortly after
being disconnected from the ventilator. He will be missed...

I just got an email on the International Eagle Austringer Website that falconer Brian Walton has passed away. He had diabeties for years. He suffered a stroke. He nearly single handedly started the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Center. I remember his program was to pull soft peregrine eggs from eyries, replace them with 'false' eggs. At the appropriate time, he would then replace the eggs with the hatchlings to be raised. He used his own funds and his own strong will to get this program going. I remember watching a news program years ago on the national news, describing the program.

I greatly admired his tenacity and personal sacrifice to assist in the recovery of the peregrine in Southern California.

Sad, men and women as dedicated as him are hard to come by. Though, he will be missed greatly, but I am sure that he will remembered by all the good work he has done. Ultimately, that is the only one thing people remember a person by - money and fame all fade away but good deeds, stand out tall, like a giant redwood amongst poplars and firs.

What a shame. Dedicated individuals such as the likes of him are so valuable in falconry and conservations projects.
