Here is a Fully tooled 4 colored Khan I made for a longtime friend, and my falconry mentor. It is female Harris. The Hawk was taken out of the mew in the middle of her moult and was hooded.. She never bated, scrtached or made a sound,,

and! is this an off shot from the FHH hood thing, jeees a brown paper bag will do as long as the bird can't see out, what the bird can't see don't worry it thats all B.O.P but what i can guess is that what the falconer can see matters alot more! tinsel, beads, plumes, bells and whistles matters nothing!

Hey just wanted to show a new colored hood on my sponsor site,, If the paper bag works,, then it is perfect.. AND you won't mind if your dog eats it..
Works for me..

Ken, is that for Dennis Maynes?
I love the colours - I can never figure out how you manage to be so precise with the colours when its all one piece of leather.

Hey Fawkes,, the hood was made for mine and Dennis's best friend Colin Trefry in Cranbrook.. Colin really helped me when I started falconry in BC it the early 80's and still does when I have a snag!!. I thought it was time I thanked him!!
The coloring and the tooling just takes time Fawkes and patience!!

Very, very nice hood. I particularly like the colour combinations.

I got a hood on my FHH at the weekend there & for all she is 2 & bit yrs old she accepted it with some persuasion, but she holds onto the glove for grim death  But better that, than her seeing the files coming up to cope her & falling out with me.

Nice work Ken!

How do you get the texture to the leather? Is that done with a roller tool or was that the texture already on the leather?

My efforts are coming along though these are very basic compared to this.

Thanks Mark,,
I have chatted and helped a few other hoodmakers with this technique including a new "Up and comer" Lee Slikkers from the US..
The hood is totally tooled with different stamping tools. You use 3-4 different tools , stamp them into the leather and WHALLA.. It is not difficult,, BUT it DOES take some time to learn of course and the coloring of the leather is painstaking!!
From what I have seen from you,, it would be no problem.

Yes, TLB,, big fan of very traditional falconry. Arab and especially falconry from Turkmenestan.. I have hawked our 7-13lb jackrabbits(hares) almost exclusively here where I live with, red tails, ferrugy hybrids, Finnish goshawks and Bald eagles,, but the best flights, TRULY the best flights have been with the salukis and gyr hybrids..
I wish I could make it to the FFestival and meet some of the the Turk falconers and just sit down and absorb!! Still trying to arrange flights!! have not given up!!

Hey Dan,, I forgot that you have some of my Austringer field hoods!! HMMM,, I could make a 4 colored hood like the Khan pictured on this thread but not sure about a Great Southern Look to it,, maybe like my Fully tooled Sedona El Diablo that is on my web site. What do you think?
