I know Alan Gates has a female golden eagle that came from the Highland Wildlife Park. I think he said she is around 40 years old.

Hi Paul,

Here is a link from Alan Gates' website that tells of Cleo - a female golden owned by Morely Nelson that was 50 years old in 1999.

In the wild, Bald Eagles can live as long as 30 years. However, the average lifespan is closer to 20 years. Bald Eagles in southern Ontario appear to have a shortened lifespan of 12 years or less. The oldest known Bald Eagle in captivity is in West Stephentown, New York that lived to be almost 50 years old. A Chesapeake Bay study (Buehler et al. 1991)

In Jeff Watsons study of the golden eagle he states on average in Scotland Golden Eagles live to the age of 38.

Cinnibars mother, Sabel, lived to the age of 34.

I have to say I have looked at that photograph many times Lauren and I picture Cinnibar like that in years to come with the wing injuries she has.
Hopefully not though.

I find that page especially interesting, Neil. Here's to Cinnibar having many fruitful years to come - both on the wing and in the breeding chamber.

Great thread, i saw sabel at the falconry centre when i was there on a course , in 1977, i can still see her now right down the end of the hawk walk on the right as you went down, i was 17 then , and i couldnt get over the beauty and size of the first golden eagle i had ever seen at close quarters, phililp glasier told me she was a berkut , amazing , she was on a big wooden block with concrete on the top , i have pictures of her somewere , cheers, mark.

I think the female Goldie at Camperdown Park in Dundee was around 40-ish, cant remember if it was her or the male that died though. Was there recently and they have a pair again.

I trained a female golden that was a known 40 years old, couldn't tell by looking at her looked like any other golden eagle. Not all that difficult to train did well. Joe
