Or... get Adobe Photoshop Elements and you can optimize them and resize them to your need.

Dear SB,
There is a simple way that, just open ur picture in Windows Paint and then save it as (save as) option and change the format of Picture to JPEG by dropping the list box when saving it… hope it will help u…

Shikra,
Paint is a very simple program that really degrades your photos. It may not reduce the size enouph, with a high quality pic, to be able to post it on the forum either. The free image resizer for windows is a better option.
Photoshop Elements is even better. It is realatively inexpensive at $100.

I mostly use Adobe Photoshop and ACDsee to edit pictures, but now i have used image resizer for windows, it is really very easy to use as well the picture quality maintains. Thanx

Nope, not compatible with Vista, its for XP only.
Use Microsoft Office Picture Manager, if you have it. I'm using Vista & its on my PC. Just right click the photo, open with "Microsoft Office Picture Manager" Click Edit pictures on the toolbar at the top LHS and a re size option should be listed on the right. At the bottom you will see resize, check the predifined tab and select your size, remembering to confirm the size by clicking the OK button at the bottom.

Alan,
Does it have a "quality" setting also? A 640X480 in high quality will be out of the range to upload onto the forum. Tasha and I save our pics in low quality for web use. Most of our pics end up being in the 50kb range. Saved in high quality, they look about the same on a puter screen and are about 200kb.
Hope that Vista has a better program built in than the pic resizer for XP.

Hi Greg
Not sure about the quality settings, this maybe in built to the programe/software. as you select your resize option, confirm and the software/Vista system does the rest.
This is a 15.8Mb Tiff file resized to 448 x 336, giving you a final size of 90.7kb with Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

Mmm! Interesting, what did you re size with, photoshop or similar?
I have adobe photoshop CS2, but i need a degree to understand how to use it.
Vista has other options for re sizing, but it's taking me a bit to figure it out. I got my new PC in April, not spent too much time with all its toys, but Vista is a easier in some respects to XP, but in all, its re learning the operating programe, something like the change over from windows98 to ME or 2000, different interphases etc.
if i figure anything else out, i wil post the findings.

On my laptop I have Photoshop Elements. It is a good program that does allot of things. You can get some free photo resizers that will allow you to pick the quality. I put the quality at about 46% to get that pic you see. If you go any lower it gets really grainy.
Photoshop CS has the ability to save to the web also. That is where you set the quality. Tasha has that on her puter. She has the degree, I am a stupid chippy.

Since I was given an upgrade I have been unable to post any pictures the normal way! I get a message telling me that the sum of my attachments is 7.18MB and that the file I am trying to up load will exceed my limit by 6.30MB which is rubbish! I have deleted a load of pictures but it makes very little difference! To get down to this sort of limit I will have to remove almost every picture I have ever uploaded. Have I done something wrong or what is going on?
