Was bored today and we had a bit of a breeze so i took some video of the tawny eagle flying, using the updraft produced by the walls of the centre, she's not specking out or anything but its a start.

Its 4 video clips edited together as my stills camera only allows 15 seconds of video at a time.

Lots of migratory birds today as well, saw a black kite, marsh harriers and honey buzzards.

It's an african tawny, she has been here in malta for a year now but i've only got her going properly in the last couple of months, before that she spent most of her time sitting around like a lemon instead of flying... This bird can be a bit funny too as far as "wanting" to fly to me goes, her weight is right down because of the temps here, but even then sometimes she just doesn't want to know.

Yeh it is Nigel, she is alright with me now though but she is the worst tawny ive worked with as far as biting goes, she has a pop at lawrence my colleague sometimes but in general is alright.

cheers robbie mine at 4 6 indian tawny so slighty smaller than african .. but occasionly overshooting the glove, its amazing the speed she can pick up in 30 yrds ... she trys to be a bitch but a bit of carful preening on the back of her neck always works a treat untill she decides to grip or bite through the glove...

Sounds like usual tawny eagle behaviour then  i haven't met one that isn't in some way a bit spiteful yet! I would expect this bird to fly near 4lb 8oz back home, i can really feel her keel at this weight but i cant risk her having off days here in malta...:snipe: ! hot weather does something funny to eagle brains, used to have problems on hot days back in UK if any eagles went up in good weather! I've never flown an indian, look more bouyant than africans though, not many around!
