just thought i would put up some pics
2days flight was on 3 passage gulls with a good 300 yard head start on her as her fitness has gained we have been finding harder flights for her one or 2 gulls and increasing the distance on them
again she picked her gull out and worked it hard with plenty of stoops on it the gull was trying to make in on a pond about a mile out from where we started
and a pic of skye on a crow before he went awol

rob (ayrshiretaxidermy) came along to see her going let her rouse up and of she went

had to drive about a bit to find the gulls today once we found them got her ready and off she went weight 2day was 2lb 10 after a few seconds she had picked a gull out the pack
put in a good few stoops at it but the last one she let the gull get above her and she broke off it
still climbing and a fare height up we lost sight of her so had to get the telem out tracked after about half hour and she had got gull number 30
in at the local hospital much to the delight of the nurses
and here is a couple of pics of the first few minutes

Brilliant Stephen , good pictures, any news on your tiercel? i do hope you locate him, what are your birds temperaments like , i no some gyr/sakers temperaments can be difficult , one i had a few years ago was very up and down, he flew very well i used him for pest control, in fact i called him jeckle n hyde , depending on his mood , biggest regret moving him on , he bred at 3 and is throwing pure black chicks , big mistake, if you are looking for another 3/4 tiercel this years bird let me no , i no off one going , untouched , good hawking, cheers, mark.

no sign of him mark think someone has lifted him
good birds are hard to come by both there temperments are good but if you get her of a kill after a feed then give her some chicks shes ok
but if i dont give her all her chicks she just does not settle on the cadge

gull no 31
2day after the long flight yesterday we put her on some closer gulls about 100-200 yards out she soon set out after them and picked out a big young gull she stooped at it about 5 times taking it on the 6th about 150ft up on the side of a hill and the drop on the other side was about the same

Great video Stephen , you got a first class gullhawk there mate, the last flight was a real dogfight , fantastic for a young falcon , can you imagine what she will be like next season, for me its one of the best types of hawking around and to date i havnt met anyone that dislikes people hunting them [gulls] the very best of luck with her mate, keep the pictures and videos coming, we have a common interest, cheers, mark.

2day gull no 32
went round to one of the farms and found a good crowd of gulls about

got gull no 33 2day
weather here was not good 2day rain on and of all day got her out at 5 for a fly
found the gulls and put her up picked one out and she tail chased it for about 4 mins
the gull stayed close to the ground not trying to gain any height it went up no more than ten ft every time she made in it went lower she broke away and the gull made its escape this one really tested her it was good to see the power in her just unfortunate it out smarted her
she then started climbing up and did a bit of self hunting and ended up getting one out of sight again so im going to bring her back in a bit as this is twice she has done this in the past week
no pics left the phone in the car

Thanks for taking the time & effort of sharing the flights with us. Never been fortunate enough to witness gull hawking, but that must have been as good an illustration as one can possibly get, short of actually being there! Well and truly impressed by the work put in by your falcon & yourself. Cheers, Magnus

gull no 35 and 36 2day
got a phone call from one of the farmers to say he had loads of gulls following the plough
phoned rob to see if he wanted to come with his peri/saker first flight was robs and she had a go at them but could not get above them nice to see her trying though
then it was zenas turn showed her the gulls that were in flight and she some in the other direction off she went about a mile out and put a stoop in got the gull and brought it down from a 100 ft or so and landed on a cattle shed roof
after making a make shift ladder and a bit of help from rob and his friend i managed to get on the roof to get her
we went back up to the farm to let robs bird have another go and she picked out a young gull a put in a good chase only to brake of it about 1/2 mile out but she is getting there just needs a few more flights at them
the gulls came back round and we put zena back up she was quick to pick one out and started climbing with it putting in a few good stoops at about 7-800ft she broke of it and headed out and ended up getting another about 1 and 1/2 miles out a couple of pics

after about 6-7 stoops she finally got it about a 1/2mile out her fitness is starting to show by how much she is putting in to get her gull

depends on the slip really the gulls 2day were about a half mile out and ended about another half mile further and that lasted about 5 mins
but some of the others were anything from 200 - 800 yrds out and only lasting a few minutes

was out 2day her second day back out in over a week as i was on my hols
I met up with rob and it was not long before we got to the first field of gulls
they were all at the other end of the field and as i was getting her ready they all started to lift
so of she went after them picked out one a good way out put in a couple of stoops and another gull came over too so she chased it and its friend out of sight
another track down about a mile away and there she was on gull no 38
we then got robs 2 peri / sakers male and female out
it was hard finding good slips for them at crovids but we found a good one for the female and she had a go at a passage crow it just made it to cover
with her hot on its tail im sure it won`t be so lucky the next time
the males flight went all over the field with crows going everywhere all making it to cover
cant wait to see them both going this week
a few pics

thanks for all your comments guys
had a good day out 2day we flew robs birds first on some crows
with the female nailing one rob can tell the rest ill just put some pics up
then we found some gulls about 1/4 mile out so gave her a slip at them i lost sight of her when she got up amongst them
all i got to see was her bringing one down from a couple of hundred feet up
and that brings the total up to the big 40
her tail is getting pretty smashed up so im hoping to get some feathers soon to imp a tail back on her
some pics of her and robs peri /saker

no 41
found a good field of gulls and set her of after them for the farmer to see
as we watched her pick one out the crowd she put in a good 5-6 stoops at it then on the last one she went down a dip in the field
after a few minutes of not seeing her getting back up i thought she must have got it on the last stoop
the farmer enjoyed the flight and said he looks forward to the next one
so i went down the road to track her down but was not were i thought she would be ended up she had chased it further round but got it anyway

went out with rob for a little while 2day looking for gulls n crows
found a dozen or so in a field with about 300 geese about 4-500 yrds out so we decided to let zena have the slip as it was a bit far out
she was a bit slower of the glove but one gull was passing so of she went
the other gulls started to lift as soon as she was a hundred yrds in and had a good head start on her
she was up a good height and a gull was flying back 2wards us and under her
she put in her stoop and nailed it on the first dont think it even new she was there
forgot to take pics

well 2day looked like it was going to go well with her new tail
we found a good flock of gulls about 500 yrds out let her see them and off she went
the gulls all lifted before she got 30 ft out so she had a lot of work to do to catch them up she soon picked one out and the chase was on
she put in a lot of stoops to the gull climbing higher and further out most of the flight we watched through binocs when we eventually lost sight of her we decided to track her down
after 7miles we caught up with her but gull no 43 ended up being a chicken in someones garden
no pics as the getaway car was waiting

some passage gulls went past for her bit far out but gave her the slip at them anyway
she was not long in picking one out and soon went out of sight with it putting in a few stoops on the way
jumped in the car to track her down thinking she would not be that far up the road after a hour and a half i finally caught up with her about 7 miles away
she had caught gull no 43 a big lesser black back well it would have been as there was not much left of it

Hi Stephen. I've got the sister to your falcon. Up till now always been a goshawk man but this falcon has definately converted me to long wings. She was originally used for crows and gulls. After some work turned her into game hawk. Busts cock pheasants in half. Waits on a 1000 ft for 15 to 20 mins no problem. She flies at 2lbs14oz. I commend the breeder and Barry Hammond who enabled me to acquire the bird.
