She is a big girl and was bred by a good friend Mark Robb she can struggle when she is turning as the smaller corvid can change direction much faster. I had a discussion with Shaun about this who has taken corvids with longwings for many years and I can see why he fly’s a male however I really am enjoying flying her and I can say in all honesty that only one Jackdaw has escaped her grasp when it went to ground and was hiding in three feet of heather.Thats twelve slips and eleven kills her fitness is proving to be the key to her success.:supz:

Very nice looking Gyr/Saker you have there, best of luck with her. It sounds like she's shaping up to be a top crow falcon.

I never got on with that bird. For some strange reason always something went wrong if I flew her to the kite.
She was no good until I used my "elevator" technic on her. Now she is awsome.

Yes mate she will never forget you as you cured her fear of heights when she climbed to 1000ft in 3 seconds:rolleyes: looks like it worked as she is really making good progress8-)

After giving the bird medication a few months ago she decided to moult all but four of her deck feathers:rolleyes: so I had no choice than to give her some time out to grow her tail back.
She is now flying to the lure very well at 2lb 6oz so a little more fitness work is needed before I take her back on the moor to nail a few more Corvids updated hunting
pictures to follow soon.

Falcons stoop at around 200mph not go up at the end of a bloody kite line at that speed:axe: LOL

Shaun it was a gift from Mark but I am sure if you PM Sara she could sort you one:yawinkle:

Mo

Can you tell me what itis your " elevator " technic? Because I have a problem with my saker to climb high even if I used the kite

Moritz

hmmm... well the elevator. how can i explain it. you wait for the bird to grab hold of the lure. then run down the line until she nearly touches the floor and then let go of the line. the bird is instantly shoot 2000 feet in the air.
This was an complet accident and i mentioned it as a joke. It was not good for the bird and only happened because i let the line slip in a strong wind. So do not do it. I still get ripped for doing it when ever certain people are together.
I flew 3 other birds that year, a g/p, a tircel and a gyr all went well with all of them every time. Just when that g/s flew to the kite something went wrong.

She had her last one today and I have to say it was a cracking flight. She is now having a well deserved rest for the next few months so she can have a good moult.
