Well had a massive scare from Shrek today. To start with over the last couple of days he has been a little bit off but nt overly bad. Then all of a sudden this morning he was suddenly down on weight and wouldn't eat. I managed to get some liver and heart down his neck. And got Ron over to check him out. Weve managed to get him to eat some pigeon and liver again but he was very slow and picky. He pushed the food through then wouldn't eat again. I have cast him and fource fed food and a glucose drink. Fingers crossed over the next couple of hours. If no improvement then hes of to the vet tomorrow.

This has got me a bit scared as it came very suddenly. Thank ***k for having a mentor.

he has been fine up or down no more than a gram or 2 a day but has been fairly settled weightwise. The suddenly today down 20 grams and no appetite.

As i said he has not been his usual self the last couple of days but has been flying reasonably.

The weight drop was over night!

Hope everything works out ok.
Just goes to show how quick birds can go downhill - if you suspect there is something wrong, get it checked - guess work plays little when it comes to treating birds of prey.

If he aint looking better by the morning he will be straight of to the vet. I am hoping I have caught him early enough if there is a problem.

Just been in with him, got him in the spare room. Hes just had a wee preen. And looks like hes pushed through some of the crop he had. Fingers crossed then.

I'm keeping a good thought for Shrek. I don't know how comfortable you are with your vets around there, but I would make an appiontment for him as soon as possible even if he does seem better tommorow. Whatever caused this is something you need to find out about. Right now focus on supportive care - keep him in a room with the temp close to 90 degrees f so that he does not have to put any resources into maintaining body temp. Keep his stress level at zero, in my experience sometimes vets underestimate how important a birds stress level is, and it can make the difference between life and death. Make sure he stays hydrated Pedialyte is great for birds, if you can get some and if you are comfortable doing so tube him some as well as some chicken or turkey baby food. Tube in very small amounts always be sure you can feel the end of the tube in the crop. If it stresses him alot then just do it once and watch him. Do not leave him in total darkness for some reason birds do better with some light at all times in critical situations. If he wants to sleep the light wont stop him. Also watch to see if at any time you see him sitting on just one leg, this would be a good sign. Another thing you can do to help him would be to get a couple live pigeons, kill one and immediatly give him a small amount while still warm. This is better than baby food. If he wont eat small pieces then, if you are comfortable doing it, you can gently pry his beak open and push a couple of small wet pieces down his throat with your finger. Good Luck!

Got him through last night with half hourly checks and fed small regular amounts through the night. Thankfully everything he has had he is putting through and his weight has gone up nicley. Will keep an eye on him through the morning. Sadly wont be able to go to the vets first thing due to work being bast**ds.

Will keep posting.

Thanks for all the support and advice guys it means a lot.

Glad to hear he's holding his own (knock on wood) and it sounds as if you have gotten him turned around. How are his droppings? and be sure to save some as a sample to take to the vet. Keep us posted and again good luck.

Hi Alex if you keep him in his hawking box in side you kitchen, you can moniter his weight plus the box will heat up with his body heat.you must keep warm at all times a may take 7 dayes 4 him 2 perk up. or he may need AntiBiotics if he has a crob bug. A good antibiotic may be Terramycin 5.5 powerd , 4 crop infections

Best regards Harry Pyle.
