Hi folks,
Yesterday my friend popped round with a dead sparrowhawk that she found in her pond in her back garden. Must of been there over night, caught in the reeds/weeds in her pond. Real shame, looks like a female, nice size.
Do I need to report this to any authority? What should I do?
Many thanks,
jamie

agreed.
no need to report it as its a wild bird which died from natural causes.
a note from the neighbour would ensure you came to be in posession of it legally etc.

Excellent thanks. Will get a note from my friend, and will remove tail feathers for any spar owner that should need them. All look in good condition.
Anyone need a set of spar tail feathers just PM me.

It would make sense to chop off the end of the wings that carry the primaries as well.

STOP! Theres one very important thing to check before you start chopping bits off the Spar.
Was it carrying a donor card? If not, you could be in big trouble.

I was going by the first line, thought the second was a bit of a wind up
I'm leaving the wings, just going to remove the tail feathers. Need to get a cardboard backing envelope, the postmen don;t really seem to give a damn when it says **DO NOT BEND** without the bloody cardboard backing.

In my experience spars are just as likely to break primaries as tail feathers, unless they on the wrong sort of perch! Why waste them?

I have to wonder if the DO NOT BEND instruction acts as an instruction for them to try to bend it. I do see my Postie most mornings and get on well with him. I know he won't bend 'em!!

Yep, I feel the same everytime mine does does it. One feather has two needle imps and a basal quil imp!!
A mate of mine told me "If you want to learn how to imp, fly a Spar"
He was not wrong!!
