Off of the fist at hare, Female saker, gyr (m or f), possibly a large f prarie, but waste of a good longwing in my book, youd be better off with a female Redtail. JUst my opinion.

I don't think any of the above are big enough to hold a hare, maybe a female gyr. A large Gos or FRT would be my choice to make sure.....

or even a large female harris.
just my opinion but horses for courses, do you just want a long wing cos they're maybe better looking than say a female harriss' hawk or red tailed hawk, gyr's and hybrids of gyr's will knock hares over. but a good female harriss' hawk or red will nail em!

I take it you dont understand, that they dont hold the quarry, They stoop at it knock it senseless then bind. falcons aint stupid you know.
The arabs fly large hybids at saga (sp) antelope, and traditional arab falconry sees sakers flown at desert hares, which arent all that much smaller than our brown hares.
I used to be in contact with a guy in germany that was flying sakers at hare over there. he said that weight margins on this type of flight had to be spot on, too high and the bird never bound it would just keep stooping at the fleeing hare, to low and they would bind to early, and get kicked off.
That said, not my cup of tea, much rather see a realy testing flight at a crow.

I had a male gyr/saker that never got fully to grips with the idea of chasing crows in flight. He would take crows and pigeons on the rise, but never really got properly exiceted by birds once they were on the wing. He was however completely mad for rabbits and hares. This was very frustrating at one place when there was a major outbreak of mixy in the local rabbit population as every time he was shown crows he would ignore them and shoot off to be found bound to a mixy rabbit.
But mixy rabbits were pretty much all the ground game he caught as his style was to make repeated passes, delivering a solid thump each time. Fit rabbits would be back down their holes after a single pass and hares were way too big to be taken down by such treatment from a 29oz bird. Any such flights were however accidental as, in my opinion, flights at ground game with falcons are definitely second rate compared to flights at winged quarry.
There was one incident when he was up at a bit of height when a hare took off across the field below him. He came down in a big stoop and hit the hare hard with a very loud 'thwack'. He thought about a second pass but decided that discretion was the better part of valour and flew back to me, landed at my feet and ran into the nearby hedge! The hare in the meantime was completely concussed, and lay on its back kicking its legs, before righting itself and running in ever bigger circles round and round until it finally came to enough to head off in a straight line. Quite something to see.

This topic has been discued befor just look for saluki and ben potter
he is the only one in the UK who does it the proper way.
To have any good succes at hares you need a saluki with the bird. As a bird I would recomened a gyr/saker female or 3/4 gyr/saker female.
