my last harris was a bit imprinty, on one trip out she struck out and put her talon through my lip, i did't swear much. My mouth poured with blood for ages.

Lasty season I had my female Gos fly from outside right in the house and hit me in the face on the left cheek. The force was so great I landed on my bum rather stunned, a cut and a puncture mark later and I was OK anyway.

crikey, i was lucky then, at least mine did it off the glove!

Off thread a little, the first time i read this thread title i thought it read
"have you ever nailed a stupid bird?" which made me laugh, cos theres been a few! did anyone else make this mistake?(the misreading of the title that is, NOT the nailing of some stupid bird!!)

No But I have had a few that were not at FLYING weight!!! LOL

Kornie
18-08-2004, 06:49 PM
lol, never bin attacked by one but my Harris flew in to the wondow. All I heard was a "donk" and she was on the floor dazed.

I do know someone who tried flying a partailly mal imprinted eagle. The bird flew full pelt and attatched itself to the flyers leg. This is a Steppe Eagle we are talking about!

I had a male Gale, not nail me but flew off the door into my plate and nail my Shepards Pie because of the tomato sauce. Boy the mess was all over the walls! LoL

I have stupidly done both. Been nailed (by the new saker last week jessing it up) and sadly, nailed a stupid bird! (ever seen on the buses? remember Olive! Oh , I need a scotch now.) I was in uni. about 10 years ago, but still weep occasionally. Anyone going to Game fair at Chetwynd Park on bank holiday?

I bin footed beacause I lazily gave Trin a whole chick at the end of a long days flying and she nailed the chick, whilst it was still in my hand. whe wouldn't let go or she'd lose the chick.

been nailed by a deer and a dog! had a saluki x greyhound, out one night i sliped her to a stag roe deer in the lamp during the course the deer hit a fence and turned towards me,i waved the lamp to no avail, the thing was in full flight and heading right for me,when i thought the time was right i moved to one side,so did the stag which hit me full on a bit like a truck, closly followed by the dog which hit me in the face(as i was on the floor)breaking my nose and forcing my teeth threw my lips,it made clean it's get away, and i made my way to casualty trying to come up with an excuse to how i got in that way.

only xrays, .them days were before the old picture regime cicked in,
i'd call them the good old days but it makes me sound like an old fart.but to be fair(and i know this should be another thread)in them days you could get land to hunt and even if you were found where you shouldnt be you could negociate then the so called dog men were out 5 or 6 twats with 6 or 7 dogs killing every thing and stealing every thing, which is one reason i've been out for so long, bare in mind this is only where i frequent and i mean no offence to anyone.

My mate was round to cast ma bird whilst I was changing her anklets and stuff. He got footed on the hand and I found out today the puncture wounds were infected in two places. (ad a girl Trin.)

I bin footed beacause I lazily gave Trin a whole chick at the end of a long days flying and she nailed the chick, whilst it was still in my hand. whe wouldn't let go or she'd lose the chick.

i have nearly made this mistake, but i hold the birds jess tightly with the gloved hand and bring the food to the bird from above so she takes it with her beak...not her feet, then she is shown the empty hand! yes its lazy and its not good practice before anyone whines!

Kornie
23-08-2004, 06:15 PM
Yeah that happened once though North, I flew her EVERY day last season. It was lazy on my behalf but it shouldn't happen again. (though it probably will):D

Had a woman working at the centre a few months ago, she decided to walk past my F RT with a tray full of frozen chicks, the RT couldn't get enough leash to get the chicks so she grabbed on to the womans cardigan, I nearly p!$$ed myself, first as she wondered what had grabbed her, the vacant look as she wondered how to get it off and the gymnastics as she tried not to spill the chicks!
I just shouted "drop the chicks", it was as though I'd released her from the clutches of a wild demon lmfao!!

Sorry but for funny tales, this one will probably beat all! I used to fly a raven (don't ask why!, but you do these silly things!) at Paradise Park, walking along talking to the public, raven on the fist, PA system switched on, and the raven bites me on the (I better word this carefully) lets say chest! (Yes you can work it out for yourself where I really mean!! ). You can't swear with a PA system turned on! You can't hit the bird with people watching! But it hurt! and yes one chap offered to rub it better!!!! Now come on you lot, beat that one!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paradise park? Where is that? By the way Falcon, is it still sore? I had a red shouldered Macaw a couple of years ago that bit an 'Ex' on the nipple. Wasnt funny for her, but now she is an 'ex' and I am thinking about it.....HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEH!

Falcon
16-09-2004, 11:11 AM
Paradise Park is in Hayle, in Cornwall. No it's not still sore, as it happened nearly 15 years ago. A tiny scar remains on me, just to remind me. A macaw has a huge beak, OUCH!!!! Prehaps the raven wasn't so bad!

i've just been nailed by a hedge hog of all things,my daughter found it wandering onto the high street knowing what the outcome would be she picked it up a braught it home i sat with it on my knee while i thaught about it's relocation when all of a sudden the git opened up and bit my finger, never had this hapen before and never heard of a hedgehog bitting anyone before, anyway to spite that the jammy sod is relocated in one of our parks where theres a healthy population of hogs.

Jiff
16-09-2004, 12:42 PM
thing is if you'r getting bit of wild things you get a bit pazza' if i go a couple of year without one and come a cropper i go to a.n.e explain what happened tell em i can't remember my last jab get one if need be along with anything else i might need,i was bitten off a fox which i tried to release from a snare once ,not a pretty sight and every thing whent through my mind, rat bites in perticular get me worried, you see doesnt matter whats in trouble i can't help sticking my hands in. the worst one of all was a wild kitten traped in the cavity of a wall in our local pub people know me and came for me to get it out as it was making a commotion and putting people off the drink, anyway off came the skirting board in whent jiffs hand out came the kitten off whent jiff to casualty.

Been footed a few times over the years.

Funniest thing was doing bird control the place we stayed used to have rats. They'd come in at night. Use to keep the Fm HH in and go ratting in the kitchen with the HH and Cocker Spaniel. They both dived under one of the shelves under the table and the cocker came out with HH on his ears. Can't remember if we got that rat.

Trying to get M HH on rabbit out of the bottom of hedge - squeezed under electric fence but it got me on the back of the head. Think I know how yesterdays protesters felt under the police battons. Gave me a real thwack.

My old harris used to give me some great scratches at the start of the season. He'd come out of his aviary with razor sharp talons, it was usually wam so I would be wearing a t-shirt, and he would decide for the first 3 days that the scales were the scariest thing ever. I used to look like I had done several rounds with Freddy Kruger

Fortunately I've never really had anything worse - but I do have alot of scars on my hands!!

I got hit by a stpud bird - the fattist budgie u ever seen!

Most budgies when they hurt hardly leave a mark, but because , when the bird was given to me, she was just so fat that she couldnt fly prop so everytime u go into clean the aviary, she "rams" you, on the side and head, and that hurt! sold all me budgies of course now lol!

I've seen sum pretty nasty footing accidents with birds of prey, but I've been pretty quick so far, few deep but none really seriouse lol. I've been lucky! worst one was off rags when i first got him out the aviary and he nailed me inbetween the index finger and thumb bout 2cm in, that bled for awhile lol! I agree with WW, u learn fast!

I made the mistake of throwing a chick in the air at the end of a hunting session for Willow to catch, she missed and came down on my head, followed by the chick hitting her on the head. They then both fell to the ground while checked for blood. Luckily for me she didn't push off too hard.

Next season I am going to throw the chich away from me. I think this is more of a case of stupid Falconer and not the bird.

So many yarns to tell and all down to human error rather than the birds.

Years back I had a mates Harris for about a year whilst he worked abroad. Anyhow let him out of his mews and he would then just fly out and land on his perch or the fence post - not this time the little ****** flew over the fence and through next doors patio doors. I then heard screams and my neighbour running out screaming into the garden I had by this time run round then proceeded to chase through the lounge and up the stairs and at last caught him in the bathroom.

Had a great little Merlin whilst doing some exercise with the little guy in my garden he was on his way to the glove for a titbit when all of a sudden he dissapeared under something pink, Timing for this to happen was synchronised as neighbours knickers had come loose from the line and caught my bird just at the right time. As I removed the knickers he was telling me how ****ed off he was and for good measure promtly bit me, one of many war wounds

Madam my EEO which I got lumbered with is now conquered and is much more ladylike she has given me many scratches and bites just because I stupidly let her and because she is sneakily faster than me.
