I LKE ANY EXCUSE FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE RAZZ! i think most folks do, how about we arrange accomodation in a hotel somewhere and all meet up for drinks/disco/curry? obviously a date will need to be set and its going to be difficult to place the event.
I suggest meetings in Salisbury, York, and Edinburgh one of these locations should be no further that 2 hours drive for 95% of forum posters
how does everyone feel about it?

I suggest Liverpool. That way, I can put a couple of people up in my place and save some cash of my own, so my birds can spend it on chicks, beef, bow perches etc.

Lee,
You read my mind, but I thought it would be too hard to organise with us all in differing areas.
If we ensure its on a Saturday then I am sure more would travel for it.
Another thought is say in a town which has an airport down my way Bournemouth which is massive along with Southampton.
May be we could do 2 meets a year one in the south and one in the north. It costs £60 to fly to Glasgow from Southampton return the petrol would be more.
I do Weekenders the clothing and they have a fashion show in the spring in Bournemouth and in the autumn at Harrogate.
It could be a long weekend complete with a few seminars/talks etc have a trip to a local raptor centre etc

Excellent Idea, Salisbury's only just down the road from me LOL
May take a bit of organising but will be worth it.

Salisbury happens to be quite close to Andover, meet there on the saturday, watch the demos, back into salisbury for a few drinks, meal, disco, theres a travel lodge nearby which is quite cheap too?
its a hike from stockton on tees but its the perfect excuse for a night out!

not a bad idea at all, salisbury is less than an hour from me and I have jobs happening in Andover. were you then HH? I work out of totton

NEHH you're on the save wave length as me! Any excuse to meet up with others who participate in Falconry (or have an interest in falconry) is good news to me. But I ain't going to hold my breath to say if I could make it or not! Salisbury I could probably manage, what's a few hundred miles anyway!? Plus I have friends up round that way. Great idea but will take some organising! 8)

i have a feeling that jiff mught be persuaded! but we'll have to wait and see. If we do the hawk conservancy thing then we need to look at dates as its not open all year round, i'll look at their website later
Debbie
01-10-2004, 01:34 PM
NEHH,
Thats great that the hawk conservancy is not open all year round as that will be better.
They are staff on site to care for the birds an exercise them anyway. the thought of 50 - 100 or so knowledgeable furum members and family members visiting they would open it for us I am sure.
if they are asked to do so.
they are 47 miles from me in Bournemouth and 20 from Salisbury.
If you would consider Bournemouth then I would happily organise the accomodation etc side of stuff if that would be a help but I know nothing of salisbury except I got there once a month to go shopping
Debbie
Debbie
01-10-2004, 01:37 PM
Had another thought :D
If the New forest Owl Sanctuary is open we could maybe visit there as I am sure Linda and Giles would be up for something like that as they are so nice.

What time of year is best for everybody?
Do you think it a good idea to set a poll up, to see who is interested in going?
If Salisbury's the place you want it, has anybody got caravans A mate of mine has got some land on the outskirts of Salisbury and I'm sure it'll be alright if you want to rough it  would have to ask though.
Regards,

Maybe we could organise a southern one first and see how that goes and a northern one later when the weather is better say in the early summer.
I would come up for the northern one. York would be the furthest for me really as thats about 300 miles. But I would definately come up for it.
General things to consider is firstly cheap accomodation idealy nothing over £25 a night, preferabley nothing over £20 for B&B am basing this on. This makes it affordable for all.
If all staying in one place then monies need to be sent quickly to the person organising it so they can sort things asap.
As HH suggested when would be a good month February/March for the Southern one maybe and May/June for the Northern one.

This has been vied 280 times and yet only 35 posts made mainly by the same people.
What is the matter with everyone. Obviously peeps are interested but if we have to pm each and every UK member personally then so be it but sinse I upgraded to the xp service pack 2 my computer is criminally slow and we have not got a clue why so it feels like I am on dial up. At my new job I have the web and now go on each lunchtime so could pm a few via that and then.
Come on everyone try and give us some hint as to whether you would be up for this or not.
And Sputle I suppose for a one off meet up I could drive up further than the 300 miles I said as it would be nice to meet everyone and there families but i'd make a long weekend of it and Harris Hawk would probably come with me and maybe two others I can squeeze in my Nissan Estate.

A meeting & curry in Salisbury?
I'd Love to go guys, but I can see the headline already,
'Lord Lucan found performing strange ritual around monolithic stones'
Yesterday, Lucan was found, performing some weird ritualistic ceremony around ancient stones in Salisbury.
Lucan was dancing some strange jig, while in one hand he had a peregrine falcon & the other a Lamb Tikka Jalfrezi.........Experts are not sure of the relevence of the bird & curry, but have come to the conclusion that Lucan is just barking mad......
When asked what the hell he was doing, he replied
"Naff Orff, I'm having a larf with my chums, and by the way, I couldn't have done the Nanny, I was out Hawking with ones falcon at the time"...."It wasn't that one was hiding, just the bloody batteries packed up in ones telemetry, I've been looking for the sodding bird ever since. Now I've found it, we're having a party, so sod orft!!!"
You know how to have a good time Mr LLL !
If one was to read your post, one would find it bloody hilarious.
Great post
The Late Lord Lucan
17-10-2004, 12:13 PM
One likes to think that even at 69 years young, one still can have a good time & be a bit of a larf......

for those arriving on friday afternoon for the preliminary recce, there will be an "inspection of the local pubs" Saturday morn/afternoon christmas shopping for the wives/hubbies
"oh your going shopping too for me dear? of course you can go....."
heheheh
The meet on the Saturday night, food, pub to pub to club.
Sunday for those who are still alive a trip to the hawk conservancy at andover to have a look at the birds (subject to confirmation email has been sent)
seeing as though stonehenge is "between" salisbury and andover we could stop off en route for a photo etc?
your comments please!!

hey guy's i'm sure at this time of year active falconers have enough on theire plates,it would be realy great to get together at some point, but just when is the problem, the way i see it,very few falconers miss the anual fair in may,i propose that the anual falconry and game fair over the bank hollyday (may) should be the venue, and for all you guy's way up north, with a bit of organization i'm sure we can accomodate on the half way point, just a thaught people, maybe a chance to buy and show off forum merchandice.

NEHH,
Thats great that the hawk conservancy is not open all year round as that will be better.
Debbie steady on debbie, theres only a couple of thousand of us, where are we going to get 50-100 knowledgable people from?
I dont care where it was i would travel to any place to meet people like you, that can give me more advice on falconry. Traveling dont bother me as i go up and down the country selling snakes. Count me in for a good **** up.
id be up for a bit of a travel .. travel lodges are only £45 quid!

So when is it. I am tea total (due to medical circumstances) and i can assure you not from choice. So if they have a vintage bottle of 2005 pepsi cote de la **** i am up for it.

hi all,
i think the idear of every one meeting up is a great idea and after reading 14 pages i have no idea of what if anything is going on .
i personally think that meeting in december is a good idea it's a good time of year when most falconers are in high sprits due to a couple of months of hunting under our belts i for one can afford to take a weekend out i'm sure the local rabbits would appreshiate it not to mention that christmas what better reason to drink and be merry,
i dont know i'm up for a meet any time but 11/12 seems like a good idea and as most of us go to the falconers fair any way i don't think it would be as special , i might well be talking out of my ass but simply think it is a good idea,
deffently salsb,
james

I suggest Liverpool. That way, I can put a couple of people up in my place and save some cash of my own, so my birds can spend it on chicks, beef, bow perches etc.
i suggest wakfeald one it is a good nite out two i can get ther lol :supz:
