Hi All,

Anybody prefer to use shelf perches than Bow-perches when tethering their bird down.

I must admit I purchased one for my last year but I haven't used it yet.

Regards,

HH

Sorry guys, can't find it any where. The picture was of a white wall/board with what looked like a bow-perch comming off of it horizontally.

IF I do find it before anyone else puts one up I'll post it.

I use a shelf perch, with rubber covering, in the night quarters and a bow perch for outside on the lawn.
Oh!........That's for a Saker, so has that confused any of you? :)

Yes it is, I cut it from car mats sourced from Halfords. Not the fancy ones but the £3.99 ones! They were quite thick, strong and with a good texture for grip. Also had the advantage of being easy to clean and I think I got at least two perch coverings from one mat. Also, reversing it now and then gives the bird a slightly different surface to stand on.

However, would you believe it, I went back for a couple more yesterday and they have changed the design and I don't like the new ones at all. I'm sure if you look around you'll find something suitable.

I've also used rubber mats that you usually find on the floor in front of electrical switchboards in factories etc.. Hope nobody from work is reading this. :D

'BEWISE', the high street shop sell nobbly door mats for £2 each, I was looking at them yesterday and thought they would make a good perch covering.

Wow, They look simple - saves alot on perches, but is it actually better?

New Kid,
The one in the picture looks nothing like the system I am using and I have no pictures of my own. However, if you get a copy of the book "Understanding the Bird of Prey" by Nick Fox, it's all explained in there.

Might consider getting or making a couple of those rather than a bow perch....

Anyone wanna shout at me for it? :P

I got a sheet of rubber cow mat that they use in milking parlers. Its a good inch thick,is soft but not to soft, has a none slip surface ,easy to cut and will last for years. If a cow can walk on it how tough does it need to be.I have it in the dog kennel and have a cutting that will go onto a few feed shelves as it is very easy to keep clean.IT is around £24 for a 6 x 4 sheet.

this one sits about chest height, mutes fall through the netting to a box filled with pine shavings underneath.

Shelf purch by "Rapton Box" moulded plastic construction with astro turf top, I think they do them in two sizes, I have found shelf purches brilliant, both my longwings and shortwing seem to prefere then to bows or blocks.
