Hiya folks,
Just a note on the best day i have had,to date, with "Gem" my 3 year old Lanner.
As I have said before I am fairly new to "flying" falcons but more recently I have been spending a fair bit of time in the field with Gem, purely flying her to the lure, the best I have had would be around 45 passes then gave up because of tiredness in the old arm, anyway as it is a great day for it I thought I'd try going a walk to see how she would be waiting on.
I put the lure into the bag and headed up the hills to some new ground I have just got to fly my hawks,(what better way to have a look around it for rabbit runs etc??) and after a minute or so heard Gems bell, (a great sound when it's the only thing you hear) she was probably about 200' in the air as she followed me everywhere, coming down now and again to look for the lure then away again. ( I must admit folks by this time, 45mins approx, I was having an absolute ball!!) getting quite cocky i decided to head into some pretty thick fir trees, about 1/4 mile square with a "path" right through the middle of it, I could hear her bell but could'nt see her, knowing she was there was enough for me, as i reached the end of the "path" there she was, high above the tree line, eyes totally focused on me, wings out in what i can only describe as a "crucifiction type pose" just hanging there.
breathtaking folks, breathtaking.
After that I got the lure out, she got into top gear and gave me the best days flying I have ever had the joy to see. Gem babe, 1 in a million!!
A bit long winded i know but damn am I happy!
yours in sport,
Rab.
