Its down to you Brian, it'll take a lot of flying to keep them all fit tho mate!
What would you fly them at?

if they are proven breeders and you want to breed then i would go for it, but if your thinking about flying the gyr/sakers, well why? you already have the best falcon on offer, id keep the the best hawk on offer too. then you have the best of both worlds 8)
decisions decisions!

My sentiments exactly NEHH :D
I would never give up a Harris Hawk they really are great all round birds.
One thing I have noticed is that no matter what people have flown they always come back to the Harris Hawk at the end of the day.
If yours is a gooden don't part with her, cos you'll regret it
And I dont mean the wife

lmao id chuck mine in too Brian!!!
seems a strange swap????? are they 50/50 birds or is there a bit of prairie etc in there as there does tend to be?
I do like the gyr/saker hybrids but its all down to what you want really. is she your only HH? if so do you want to go just longwings? etc etc
BrianM
08-12-2004, 10:21 PM
they are just 50/50 Chris.. id stil have my little male hh...... just seemes too good to be true?? .............. whats the going rate for a gyr/saker??
Wightwings
08-12-2004, 10:33 PM
not sure to be truthfull, but a good male 50/50 must come in at least the same as a good MHH? last one i bought did have prairie in there and he was around £300 but LATE in the season and last of the brood, poss even second clutch.( must admit i never asked that one  ) was a superb bird tho
must admit sounds a good deal and I personnaly would be VERY tempted.
especially if you do know the guy. dont want to pry too much but.................mmm what's a good FHH thats doing the biz worth?.......?
BrianM

my heart says go for it but the wee voice in my head say why doesnt he just sell the birds and buy a hh and have money left over??

Sounds like a great deal! if you have flying room for this type raptor, plus you will require more houseing space , more food ! ect...........
Are you attached to the bird you have now? I would not take a dozen per-falco"s for my goshawk , then again, no one else would have the demon!
If I were not attached to my gos , as I am , I"d go for it !

Are the falcons proven on game? Do you want to hunt them or breed them? It sounds like a too good to be true scenario to me. I would be a bit sceptical aboot whats wrong with his birds. All in all it's your call. I would investigate a little bit and probably go for it, if everything seemed on the up and up.

Brian don't mean to be picky but if they're both 2 years old and being flown how are they part of a breeding program???
Female hybrids are rarely fertile so if you have one you know to be fertile you would be foolish to fly it or swap it for a female harris for that matter, personally i'd excersize a bit of caution on this deal. Do you know the bloke, is his name Arther??
As in Daley?
Best wishes

fertile or not fertile, I'd swap for them provided you were happy with their general condition and seen them fly.

As everyone else says, it is going to take some hard work as you will be taking on a couple of long wings to train at the same time (if that is what you choose to do), Sounds like it might be easier for this guy to get hold of a fully trained female harris hawk than get one and do it all himself. If there is nothing wrong with the Gyr/Saker's then i would go for it, you have your male so you are still able to go out with a hawk. It is just down to whether you are going to take the chance with the falcons, and hope they are ok.

In all i think that this question is a difficult one to get an answer to on the forum, as there are members who may not have nor flown a longwing and would jump for the chance to have one, and members who have not had birds for very long and can not imagine swapping the one they have, and then other members who have done it all before and are used to it. It is going to be tricky to get an answer from so many falconers and austringers that range from novice to experienced. P.s. you also have those people who don't have birds and would love one and don't yet know what it is like.

Training one Gyr-Saker is hard enough, I can only imagine the ballache of training and keeping three longwings fit at the same time........
I'd give it plenty of thought either way.
Good Luck!
me id do the swop and bang um in a pen to breed just fly your male hh for the rest of the season its not long till its time they start to think about breeding and u could be lucky and get a clutch. if they do quids in if they dont you could sell them as a bonded pair and buy your self a nice new harris. duno m8 its ur choice.
all the best and keep us informad m8

the male looks bigger than the fem!!!!!!! nice birds Brian. Id have to think very seriously about it.
its hard to "advise" shes your bird but i must admit if these two are genuine i be tempted. I hear what others are saying about the possible reasons he may have but a little research on your part for peice of mind and hey?????????????

you should always make sure of the age of the birds
especially if you want to breed
