Like the idea of the Transmitter Tester? The Sterling Range looks good too, but I would rather go for Marshall or Luksander looking at the prices.
Are you after a system BWH?

yea im looking for a new system 173mhz
iv not heard good things about marshall a lot of people have told me that they are good when they work but when they mess up its hard to get parts from them as they are from the states?

Not true, Garlands are in Tamworth, too. What about a Luksander system then?

i have thought about them aswell how are they in the field?
Has any one used the system ben long is selling?

Yes I know Dave Newby has. He is best at letting you know, I think it was good. Why 173?

its just easier with the transmitters all the people i go hawking with are on 173 so it is easier to just take 1 receiver if need be-but i dont know i have never had to track a bird
Not true, Garlands are in Tamworth, too
Yeah, they charge you the earth and send to the states any way...3mths later....

I use a Bio track, cant fault it and servicing takes about a week to turn around, they even leant me a reciever whilst it was in!

Hi Baywinhawker,
I can recommend the Martin Jones System "Falcon Telemetrics", made in the UK with brilliant servicing. Option of the 3 channel Receiver 173 MHZ or the new Digital receiver which will work on any frequency transmitter, plus it will store upto 1,000 channels.
The main problem with systems made abroad as stated is the time and money it takes to get them fixed, personally I would try and always opt for a system made in the UK.

I too use a Bio Track, can't fault it. When my Saker went on a jolly the other week; Julian used his Marshalls and I used my Bio Track, and the longer range readings, the Bio Track gave a more positive signal; also I have the attenuator fitted which will pin point a transmitter to with in a 5m radius.
I was told by somebody "in the know",,,nudge ,nudge,wink,wink,..that the falconry electronic is a marshall clone, but dont tell anyone...lawsuits etc...

Thats good service Baywing. I had a chat with them at last years fair, they gave me loads of advice, chatted to them for about 1/2 hour. I didn't buy anything at the time and as I was leaving they gave me 5 free tail mounts! Nice guys.

Complete ********! Marshal rebadge a Wildlife Materials (Falconry Electronics) receiver.

They are the dogs danglies, for better technology than the Luksander, and more reliable than Marshal.

216 is an illegal frequency in the UK.

I, too, have Biotrack. Fantastic service! They are the biggest telemetry manufacturers in Europe, making mostly biological equipment from Elephants to snakes! I think I am right in saying they have made 50,000 transmitters so far. Sorry to say that American electronics does not have a good reputation for reliability, even if we allow for the poor service. What use is telemetry if it doesn't work?

OK NO fighting!
Any telemetry is only as good as the person on the end, dont matter what it is,if it works for you..stick with...first learn how to use it...e.g.bloke i know uses a scanner thing from Tandy 10 yrs old,£14 worth...**** over anybody tracking his birds...why??he knows how to use it
that better HM??

i've been using a scanner for a couple of years now i never had a problem with it most of the time the signal on my original transmitter was slower i got used to it n found it easy to use after practise. got a new marshall transmitter with a faster signal pulse i've had problems with it but now gettin used to it. u gotta play!! also useful to lose your bird from time to time!!!! lol  hone those tracking skills!

Blackhawke, I think you can ask marshall to adjust the beep rate on any of the transmitters they make, less beeps could save a bit of battery time. Don't quote me but I think thats what I read somewhere..

I did a lot of work with scanners trying to get a system that worked as well as pro telemetry and sadly didn't get a satisfactory outcome. I go along with Blackhawke too - if you're prepared to play around with the gear (and have a reasonable knowledge of electronics) you will get a reliable and cheap system. It was just getting a bit beyond me!
The thread is still on the forum tho for anyone who is interested in the outcomes of what I tested.

173 is NOT approved for falconry. So it is OK then so it 216.

Hi,
Maxi-Mass is right and as far as I know 173 is legal and 216 is illegal in this country for telemetry purposes here in the UK.

N.B. This is one of the few systems which fulfills the correct frequency requirements for the U.K. In common with most other telemetry systems it has not yet been type approved
Kevin Massey
13-02-2005, 05:45 PM
h/m
is that not just showing...that the system is not approved (and along with others)... the systems have not been test aproved?
but the 173 mhz is legal frequency for telemetry in the uk

That would be my reading of it too Kev. The key words seem to be "correct frequency requirements for the U.K."

173 is NOT approved for falconry.
the actual systems were not mentioned here bud !!!...... is in my perception and only my perception that 173. summut is legal in the UK.
as for individual systems thats a different matter i know......weather the, supplier of the systems have them certified legal ?
weather the vendor has had them tested to comply to the legal frequencies?

I often wonder wether 'approved' or 'type approved' is just becoming a phrase used by the manufacturers to help sell their products.
There are set frequency allocations laid down by Ofcom for the use of 'tracking birds' in falconry and other purposes.
Providing the equipment meets the guidelines there is NO LICENCE or APPROVAL needed.
Here are the specifications laid down by Ofcom.

I am flying my second male harris at present , i have also flown a male redtail. I want to do another twelve months with the harris because even with all this advice online you can't get better without actual hands on experience . i hope to eventually fly a gos , a friend has a femail which flys at 2lb 7 oz and is awsome , he is a awsome falconer who as been flying for a number of years , and advised me to take it steady before getting a gos ..

Was there someone on the forum connected to falconry electronics?
I nearly bought one at this years FF but I just didnt have any spare cash at that moment in time!
anyway it looks a little like we are again being ripped off as I can buy a system on 173 from the states for about £210 inclusive of delivery so add £100 for a transmitter and thats a brandnew system for about £300 where if i was to buy it here at the FF at discount show prices it would have been the best part of £600!
why do they try to rip us off surely a little lower price would stand out above the competeition and get them a good name?
anyone fancy getting a set with me and we see if we can get an even better deal with from the yanks?

been there , done that,, i couldnt get anyone to sell me a system direct from the states ,,, they just pointed me in the direction of a registered supplier in the uk
