I came in from school today to find Blitz dead, my fhh had nailed her. We are all totally gutted, she was one of a kind, and were all going to miss her:cry: We think it would be a good idea to get a painting done of Blitz to remeber her by, if any artists out there could help us we would be gratefull, we will pay for the work, Thank You Cain:(

Sorry for your loss mate. I once came home to a female harris eating her mate a male harris. They had flown together as a cast and were together for nearly two years so it was really sad and hard to understand. Hope you feel better soon. It is a hard thing when you lose any pet or bird but we get so much from them that we keep getting more.
I think it is that age old thing - the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

Hi there. I´d be happy to do it, if a pen and ink etching would be satisfactory. I tried e-mailing you privately, but without success, I´m afraid. Feel free to contact me via our web site.

Bad news, but I'm afraid that is what can happen when you have two birds and one bird that can and will eat the other. It doesn't matter how unlikely you think it is that it would happen, it generally does. What seems safe, probably isn't. You can't give them a single chance. I've known someone who lost a bird when an aviary wall had a knot in the larch panel that fell out, one bird popped it's head and beak through to look at got nailed. Another dragged it's perch over to kill the other!!
I can't walk my harris past my Musket or Spar without him bating to eat one or the other. I have to be so careful with leashes/equipment and even go to the extreme of boxing up both birds up indoors while I have the Harris out as he could fly past my shoulder when opening or closing the aviary door.
I know it is pretty painful to talk about but a bit more info on what went wrong may help prevent another death. Though i have to say, if you are flying an accipiter, you are hardly likely to be a novice!!
Very sad news, one less Spar, I hope you have some great memories of her.

Ive recently just been reading a thread abar blitz so sorry mate ive just lost a bird to but not like that but all i can say is get back out there mate and get another female spar i know it wont replace all the hard work that you put in and the love and compassion for the bird but she will sure cheer u up and hopefully she would be just as good as blitz and as they say " a bird is only as good as the falconer " and mate you seem to be a great 1 but if your fhh has done that dont be angry with her just make sure you have a small avery away from her if you get another bop hopefully a spar because you did so well
