Can anyone give first hand experience or information on aviary cctv systems, wired and non wired, including quad boxes, transmitters etc.
This is not for general security but for in-aviary behaviour etc viewing, I was looking to install a 16 camera wireless system with a range of about 100meters. Do you have a similar setup ? and what are the problems associated if any ? Can a multiplexer be used with a wireless system ? etc etc etc,

Gino you've come to the right place!
We install Door entry, CCTV and security, from basic single camera systems to multi camera, multi monitor infa red, wireless or hard wired, standard Video or DV Rom giving a full years recording and instant frame search.
Let me know Exactly what you want to do and I'll let you know what you need and if its possible.
Yes you can multiplex wireless systems but i would only use a quad screen otherwise the picture is too small. This means you can only view 4 cameras at a time although the DVR will record all 16. Depending on your system quality you may need a relay RX/TX to give you 100m. You can go as simple or as elaborate as you like, its all down to how much you are willing to spend.

Not had any problems with Infa red Brian. I've done some big breeding establishments and none of the cameras got touched. The only problems were with pan and tilt cameras, so we just put them in a dome.

many thanks Hawka, what I need is a
16 multplex system
quads and recording facility
16 colour cameras, some i/r, some daytime
wireless and portable.
I have the tv monitor, video.
I am setting up a central security and viewing area at my home, where I can view all activities inside and outside. The main aviary complex is about 90meters away, about 3000 square feet and hosts aviaries etc.
I also want the flexibilty to move cameras as and when required, breeding behaviour etc and this is why I want wireless, also the distance to hardwire would cause major work. Will the wireless system give me good reception, will I need bouster antenas / arials etc or transmitter bousters ?????
Can you suggest a retailer or advise on my spec, kind regards
Gino

I'll spec it up for you and give you the details, dont buy any gear at retail prices you'll pay through the nose. The problem is that there is such a difference in price depending on the quality of gear you use, I'll give you an idea of both ends of the scale. Give me a couple of days.

Just to give you something to think about:
The cameras will obviously need a power supply, this means one in each aviery/chamber which will cut down on your flexability, you could use a battery system but will be changing batteries every couple of days.
Wireless systems are prone to interferance, aircraft, mobile phones etc and are never as good as hard wired systems.
With colour cameras you lose definition and with IR even more.
You say you have a monitor and video, how many cameras do you want to view at any one time and is your video time lapse. You can guaruntee just as your film finishes the first chick pops its little head out!
DVR is the way to go, you can get up to a years constant filming on the hard drive and theres none of this rewinding rubbish, just type in a date and there's the film.

Thanks Hawka,
a power supply is installed just outside each aviary sub-roof, still within the main complex, out of the rain etc, flexibility will be okay as each power suply is portable.
I would like to view up to 16 camera images through the multiplex unit, and view in detail each camera image when required. At this stage I think I will have 4 external, outwith the complex and 12 inside.
Because we are talking security here, can we PM one another on the subject......t/l, dvr, IR etc etc
kind regards
Gino

Easy mate, black and white outdoor cameras, quad screen monitor and either a time lapse video or a DVR. The best DVR will record a whole year of footage in one go, no rewinding, just tap in a time and date and there it is, I love em!! Just depends what you want to spend.
cheers for that hawka, that is certainly summink i'm gonna check into

As a roughtimation you're looking at:
Basic B/W Camera £60
Camera with night vision £100
Monitor £60
1 year DVR and quad multiplexer £300
Cabling £30
You will also need a power supply for each camera (see mews wiring thread lol)
These are prices for proffessional gear at trade price, you can get some of it cheaper at DIY stores but its cr4p.

If you want to go a stage further you can connect your DVR to your PC and burn the film onto disk/edit OR put remote control cameras in and control them from your PC keyboard, you do need the software and leads though!! The options are endless.
