I know a female HH called 'Boadicea', seems to suit her just fine! I'm too arsey about names, I always have to have something meaningful. Pointless, I know. A mate had a dog of dubious intelligence so he called it 'Scope'!

i'd give some thought to what a t*t you might sound,if someone hears you calling it!
my MHH is known as 'the bird',when i call him back i whistle,or call,c'mon!
(me kids call him bomber-which is upto them!)

Leeds Newby
25-01-2005, 07:33 PM
thats your opinion sharpster
but id rather name a bird than just call it ( the bird )

Colohen
26-01-2005, 03:06 AM
My Birds come to the fist by name , whistles are best but are confussing to the the birds when training space is limeted , when one is in the mews and the other is flying .
I also have a attachment to my birds , Names help the memory of who did what and which one's was the closest to me in the future , should something happen to them you will allways rember the names of the good ones!!!!!!!!![/b]

Bubo
26-01-2005, 07:25 AM
i agree names are very important. A lady here has 5 barnies and she showed me that each knew their name so well. all five of them were sitting on different posts and she called them one by one. Only the one called came to her the others just sat there waiting!!

leeds newby,i did name my old goshawk-i called him. . .gos !(sad but true im afraid)in years gone by there was also barney the barn owl & olly the eagle owl!
with that level of imagination, you can see why i've given up with names!!

Question is, Timberdog, after four pages have you picked a name yet? The suspense is killing me!

TimberDog
26-01-2005, 08:40 PM
I tell ya its confused me even more now alot of good names.

I should call it Frantic!!

Will
26-01-2005, 08:50 PM
In my first place of work, we'd have so many beasties passing through, we'd pick a subject, e.g. Roman gods or whatever, and use all those names up before moving on to some other daft subject. Some good arguments in the staff room!
At home I take the easy option and name everything after all my idols. Bit sad at my age but so what, I pay for 'em! Good luck!

TD
I would name some animals by there trates ie......Bucky , a dog I had years ago , because when he jumped it reminded me of a buck dearand wheeler , a BO I reased a year or so back , cause when a car would go by he moved his haed in a circle real fast trying to keep focus on one of the vichels wheel. It was kinda funny to watch.

Timber dog, I think you should think of a theme!

For example trees, you could have oak, willow, beech, etc. And I picked the matrix calling my current harris Tinity, and my other birds will all be chartacters from matrix! But think long and hard, a strong powerful name means everything

Gos
14-02-2005, 05:57 PM
my male harris is called phoenix, the male goss are called chester, and kane.

Mojo

How about Little Wing? (Jimi Hendrix's song)..or Eurydice (from Orpheus and Eurydice)...or Titania (queen of the Fairy Realm, Auberon's wife)...or Nuala...or...or...or...Barbra Streissand? :D

btw, Colohen, Valkyrie are not warrior angels, they're just girls who pick the souls from warriors who fell in the battle and bring them to Vallhala, the warrior paradise :D :D

i would just like to say that i have a sixteen month old beutiful daughter who is called willoe-and it is a lovely name:):)
also- if you would liek to choose a name for your harris, why not look back to some of the rooots of the harris and pick an original name that was around 200-300 years ago such as pocahontas(indians who kept harris hawks)???
just a thot :)

Gaz
16-02-2005, 08:57 AM
Like i"ve said before, the best way is to get the bird on the fist,...pull out some food...drop it......try to catch it ,....the names will come thick and fast

Bubo
16-02-2005, 09:18 AM
yeah but you have to choose a name you can call in public gaz!! but that sure was funny!!! hehehehe
