im so envyous of that mews jiff
just for you andy front view
i fitted a sliding door as i didnt have room for a double, the sliding door gives me a bit more control when entering or leaving the mews, the picture was taken earlier when the mew was covered to darken it for innitial tamming.

innitial tamming.
Sounds like a Welsh expression to me!
Why do you feel it necessary to darken the mews for this purpose? Not a criticism just a question. (thought I'd add that as some people seem to be so bloody twitchy on this forum!)

Well there's one way to bump up my post count!
Sorry.
Red
red, initialy sky was a raving looney without a hood, as you know birds will bate away from you when you first get them,my garden and mew is gravel covered so i had no where safe (lawn ect) by darkening the mew i could approach her un hooded and spend some time without a fight.

Yea, I do the same thing on my mews...I cover the windows until I feel the bird has calmed down a bit. Then I unvover one window at a time to allow her a look at the outside world. It stops alot of bateing at the bars and such.

What would I do without you Andy, you make it look like I know what the hell I'm doing.
Sounds to me like a good enough reason to me Jiff.

Jiff,
The nights are starting to get longer and I'm starting to get itchy feet regarding building my mews!
A couple of questions!
The flat roof part of your mews, is it covered or is it wired over?
Flooring, what have you layed the gravel on? Slabs, concrete of bare earth?
Thanks

I am in the same possition as you sighthound!
I was also wondering what the inside looked like?
Is this where your hawk/falcon will be moulting? is she/he teathered up or free lofted?
Also how big did you make the gaps in the front windows? I have heard quite a few sizes and not sure which to go for?

come on Jiff answer the b****y question....lol
scues me for been slow guys, the back half of mine is covered the front half is plastic coated wire, the mew is built on a concrete base, when built i barrowe a ton of pea gravel in and spread it so theres 3 inch of gravel cover on the floor, theres a drain in the back corner so i can hose it down from time to time(the drain is covered with a fine mesh cover to stop the gravel falling in and blocking it up.) ill try and sort some more pics,
