How do you guys get permission to fly your birds at gamebirds? Is most of the land you fly over gamekeepered, and if so does that mean your paying for the rights to hunt on it? Or is some of it syndicate land? I only ask because it is my long term ambition to hunt up here on the fells where I work, but I can't imagine ever getting permission to do so!

This is probably a stupid newbie question, but it seemed more appropriate to stick it in this board.

with the BFC meets they do pay for the day but it doesnt mean you are going to get a pheasant i dont want to say the price it was on the bfc meet i went on because i dont think its right for me to do that but i went on for only one day just to see what it was like i have been invited to go to another bfc club but in a diff area but i like my rabbits to much:lol::lol:

some of the land what i have has pheasant on it but these have come from a pheasant shoot which is keepered so with it being on the land where i have permission i will take them but i have never gone out looking for them

but i supose if you have some land with woods and you know that you are going to have permission for a few yrs then people will release pheasant onto it for them to target

Some people buy days on shoots, some people run there own syndicates or buy into syndicates, some people help out on shoots in return for working there hawk on the land. Some people release a few birds on their own permission.

Some people are jammy gits

I really do feel for you guys over there.....In MN we have 1.2 million acres of public hunting land. In SW MN there are plenty of game birds for longwinging and around where I live, I have pheasants in cattails in industrial parks where it is easy to get permission. I had to get written permission from every business along my duck creek, I have a guy that is hassling me about hunting there. All I had to do was ask, I now have 7 pieces of paper in my pocket. The laws here are that you cannot harass a hunter. So next time he threatens to call the police, I will stand there and let him.

So the BFC sometimes arranges days gamehawking then? Are any of these days at grouse, woodcock or snipe? I think I'll ask the headkeeper here what he reckons. I'll have to make it very clear its a hypothetical question or I can guess his response!

The North East region of the BFC have put on a number of pheasant hawking days for short/broadwings most have been bought days from shoots/estates. If you want to hawk game regular it costs money these days. Mike

Apologies in advance for what is definitely a stupid newbie question (the books are on the way and the club application forms filled in, honest!):

If its hard to get frequent gamehawking, can certain longwings also be flown at rabbits? For example if you can get a couple of days at grouse or partridge, can the bird also be flown at rabbits the rest of the season?

I think you will probably need to re think the type of hawking you wish to do if the access you have is mainly for rabbits with the odd head of game a red tail would probably be a good bet or a Harris. Like I send on the pm join the club come along to the region and get on a meet or two will answer a lot of questions also a good time to constantly pick peoples brains !! . Mike

I do beating every other saturday on a local shoot to me for my permission to fly birds on there and have done for the last 3 years and i have just been offered some more shooting ground (3000 acres)not far away but the only snag this season is i cant get on there till start of feb when shooting season finnish's so no feathered quarry unless theres the odd accident lol but theres loads of bunnys on there so i will be hitting them till the end of the season and take the game keeper out and show him what its all about and then perhaps i'll get permission from start of season next year fingers crossed
