Hi
I have been looking on the marshall website
I can buy a set from the USA with P&P for to the UK for £500 ish
Will this work over here? is it cheaper than going though garlands?
What is the best frequency??

Unfortunately they will not sell it to you.
Yes it will work here, but there would be other costs too if you were to get it here, loike postage, customs, tax and VAT.
I prefer 216 Mhz.
HTH?

what you need to do to get your system 2/3 rds the price and better frequency is simply think of some friends who know someone in the states, send em payment etc that is what a few people I know have done.
p.s. the ariels arn't very strong and break easy with marshall and if anything goes wrong they take a while to send it back. not in my opinion the best system but for sure they have the best marketing

5 channel $695 $1.8 to £1 now so works out at £386 as opposed to £700 how can there be such a difference?

Yip so what would you say is the better system?

I personally only sweep my yagi 360 degrees through the air, not sure how strong they need to be for that?? Mine seems strong enough and I have not had any problems to date.

well during hawking with accipiters in the past I have lost sight of my hawk and needed to get my receiver of my back. I'm following the signal somtimes with it bouncing a bit and had to go through hedges over fences branbles and whatever and I have had my ariels bend from time to time. I sent back my biotrack (the only one I use now) and it was back on my doorstep in about 14 days. With the marshall its more like 6 weeks.
Biotrack really are good recievers in my opinion you can really get an accurate position of your bird even if the 6 prongs are a bit used. the only drawback with biotrack is that the battery low light comes on too late when your battery is already too flat, but I'm sure we all carry spares.
The marshall recievers I believe are £700, compared to £500 for the biotrack, and about £380 for us marshall, and I really don't believe there is much difference in performance as the components are very similar. Only biotrack is stronger and more robust.
As for the Mhz, I have not tested it myself but due to what I have read about radio frequencies and that my father repairs radio equiptment for nimrod aircraft, I honestly believe 216 is more powerful at close range. but I think 175 does not lose as much gain through woodland and vegetation. therfore pehaps 216 is better in open country where as 175 may be better if flying hawks.

All I can say is that I have dragged myself and the telemetry through hedges and bushes tracking both Accipiters and hybrid falcons and so far the yagi is in perfect condition.
The Marshall receiver only is £510 for a five channel and £580 for a 10 channel.
I had a slight fault with a RT plus transmitter (battery warning set to low) and Garlands sent a new one to me next day, so as far as repairs go, again so far no problems.
I to have used the Biotrack system a fews years ago and found it to be a very good system, very much like the marshall in many ways.

BUT would you EVER have another, after the Marshall?
BTW I broken a Luksander Yagi and am waiting for a new one now. Once I have it the Lukie is up for sale.

It would be my second choice but I have to say that it is a cracking system and wouldnt think twice about owning another.

There is a lot of anti- Marshall talk always on lists. But I've never been let down by it and the best part is - When the marshall receiver was slagged off when compared to the luksander, etc regarding robustness and reliability it was made By WILDLIFE MATERIALS INC. The same system is now marketed by Falconry Electronics and it's now "the best thing since sliced bread". Its the same receiver - so why is it not now slagged off - is it because its not called Marshall's anymore.
So the same receiver which works well when marketed by a different person even though it is made by the same people suddenly becomes better - someone please explain.

I Think what the main difference with Marshall and LL is the amount of bells and whistles they have on them The LL is less likely to break on you as it is simple in design whereas the Marshall is full of high tech goodies that can cause some issues. With this comes a slightly better quality from the marshall in my opinion, but I would still buy the LL if I had the money for either one. Many longwingers that I know use either one and each swears by the system they have. I thinkis't more personal preferance than anything else. Heck,I don't really want either of them.... the one I want is the Tracker Maxima anyway.

I have a Tracker and will be flogging it to buy a Marshall's.
Maybe Marshall's has a bad name in the UK because of Garlands.
If Marshall's tried a bit of diversity and stopped letting Garlands have the monopoly on the goods then things would improve.
At the moment Garlands can do what they as no one is going to undercut them on price or service?
Has anyone ever received a email reply from them concerning there falcon sales

I've always had good dealings with Garlands. Had one transmitter that started varying frequency each time I tuned in to it and Garlands replaced it immediately, without a receipt and about 3 years after I initially bought it! I personally can't argue with the service.

HiOutflying, the only thing I can add havind had much experience of both MN10 systems & Marshalls including the trx rec's is that they whilst excellent , do take a bit of getting used to & all complaints I have heard of in the past is when falconers 'come clean after complaing about tx's/ recs not working properly it was down to a) lack of practice with equipment or b) old batteries or )c combination of both and this after they had lost their hawk!

SJ, as I said the anti Marshall thing seems to be the way on most lists, and the Falconry Electronics is now the must have system. Both were the same equipment, this is point I wanted to make.
Last thing the Falconry Electronics receiver warranty is 3 years, but it is a 5 year warranty in the states.

had a look at lloydparabuteos new marshall 10 channel yesterday. the new design has no trigger to it but still a very nice compact set.
will be purchasing a new set before the season starts for defo. I think he said he only paid £580 + 140 for the transmitter
unfortunately its and extra 50 for the case but still not a bad price i dont think

You can still ask for a trigger if you want it. When I get my set checked out next year I will have the extra 5 channels on it and also the off switch on the gain knob (stops accidently switching on whilst in bag).

Just got in my new set of telemetry. I bought a new type that just came on the market. It picks up all frequencies in the 216.217,218 and 219 range. All for $499 dollars. It works very well as I tested it with an RT+ at approximatly 5 miles. Here is the site if anyone is interested.

Because I prefer the Marshall and it is bulky. I already owned the Marshall, and Phil had a Biotrack and it just never compared. It also brought him on to 216 Mhz.
