Can anyone tell me any good tips to get a Barn Owl to be manned if possible and i suppose a bit of a social imprint.

IE: family friendly if possible i know these birds enjoy somwere to hide and are not the best to view whilst in mews if free lofted

Any constructive comments welcome

If its been with the parents until now I think you will struggle a bit mate. You might end up with a bad tempered mal imprint. The only thing to do is the same with any owl, live with it night and day and see if it will imprint.
If you want a parent reared I think it should have been left with its parents a bit longer.

Good luck mate.

Cheers mate

I am manning it to death as we speak with respect as well for its privicy etc.

I am passed the Hissing and beak clapping stage so not bad after two days. and taking the bird to food not feeding direct so we will see

Hi there,
i would have suggested the contrary but i may be wrong here. I would try to make sure the bird does see you with the food and gingerly start giving your barny the food. As hawka said live with your bird 24/24 and be around him all the time. Obviously repsect sleeping time as that is important but all of it's waking time let him be with ya (if possibl) i'm lucky i dont work at the moment and could do this with my barn owl. so it may not be so easy if your working.

good luck and do tell us how it goes (dont forget the diary!!). I would just like to ask one thing, wouldnt it be easier if it was your wife that did the manning then the owl will form an extra special bond when it comes to terms with being with you? it is just that my mate did the same thing and the owl wont even look at his wife!!
just a thought

Yea' give it the food on the GLOVE, not fingers and you should be OK. Keep feeding as much as possible though as it still has some time to grow.

Qustion? Why a parent reared BO? barns inprint in 23 days . Ive raised several and is diffacult not to imprint when there dependent own you for food especialy of there is only one. I thing imprints are much easyer to handle then a parent reared .
I'll probley be geting several in about 3 months . Wish I could keep every one!!!!!!!!
