Hi Guys,
on Sunday I picked up my Ferret at a Friends House. i left him there, because I went on holiday. Befor I gave him away he was a realy nice lad, but now he tries to bite me the hole time. Whats wrong with him? I did not have any blood on my hands, so that was not the problem.
Thanks Moritz
Moritz
Sounds like your friends may have roughed him up a bit or have done somerthing to him he didn't like.
Have you checked him over?
If not take him to a vet he could have been dropped and injured a rib etc. my thinking behind this if you had your ribs fractured or bruised bet you wouldn't want a squeeze.

I will check him over. Could it be that he does not recognise me any more? I had not seen for a month. i hope it gets better, because I need him on the weekend.
Thanks

If he's physically ok, you probably just need to handle him a bit. If your friends were a bit nervous and kept pulling away he will have learned to chase hands! They soon remember once handled again.
male ferrets usaly like to have a bite its just the way they are but 8 times outa 10 they will only put there mouth around yer finger and not realy bite hard ! its just the way they are to be honest i only work jills and have found them to be much more tame i only keep the hob for breeding and its rare that i ever work him he gets out to play in his run and gets plenty fredome but thats as far as it goes .............

i also find my hobs are much nicer than the jills ,also much easier to handle a large steady hob, rather than a jill thats squirming about trying to have a nip
cheers

Has your mate got any kids. If the ferret has been tormented in anyway ie fingers been poked through the bars. I once had a ferret that had that done to him. And he turned out ok after loads of handling but then he was also put in a pen with 2 big hobs they soon knocked him down a peg or two.
Reguards Ken.

same here.
Terrible day yesterday, through complacancy, male harris never touched a ferret in his life nailed one of me young jills, then mates bird (fem)piled in on hearing her scream(never heard a ferret scream so much,..did me best, but she was f####d!!..i got nailed in the hand by the fem and had the ferret locked on to me index finger through the nail..ouch!..but the worst of all is i had to put her down, feel so bad and guilty you wouldnt belive...do this long enough to know that s##t happens..dont make me feel much better though!!..absoulutely gutted.

I had same last season Gaz, mates FHH nailed one of his Jills, I dived in and prized her off, she had a back tallon in the ferrets mouth and up through the roof. Blood and s**t everywhere and scream...................
The tough little gal lived though and is out working this season with the same bird but under tighter supervision!

Sorry to here that Gaz, if it makes you feel any better, i had that happen a few times!
last two the ferret got out OK, but once had one with the Eagle, not so lucky?
It's gonna happen one day no matter how careful you are?
S*@t happens but at least she went doing what nature intended for her, Hunting!
moritz, it certainly sounds as if you'r ferret has been poorly handled while you were away,if he feels in any kind of danger he's only defence is to bite,i'm sure with plenty of confidant handling he'll soon settle back down.

Hey Moritz,
If the ferret continues to bite there is one sure fire, tried and trusted, failsafe, foolproof method to stop it. Shoot the ******.
The down side to this course of action is that ferrets never seem to work as well afterwards, although you will notice the food bills fall dramatically.
Sadly, a biting ferret is about as much fun as a boil on your ass and about as much use too. Decision time maybe?

DONT KNOW IF THIS IS ANY HELP TO YOU BUT WHENEVER I GET A BITING FERRET I SMOTHER A FINGER IN ENGLISH MUSTARD AND LET THEM TAKE A NIP,THEY DONT DO IT AGAIN..

I think that's a good way to mess up any trust your ferret has with you.
:minigun:
Cut some liver and feed some little pieces to it. Dip your finger in some milk and egg yolk or blood from the liver and just let it lick it off.
Go back to basics with it and don't go anywhere near the above from SB.
If he was ok before they hasnt to be a reason why he is being nasty now.

i know little about ferrets. just curious but wouldnt the ferret be more likely to bite rather than lick your finger ???

Thats why you start with little slivers of meat and then go on to the licking stage. Also just spend time with them out in the outdoor run you have got. Playinh for a couple of hours a day.

I know its slightly off topic but has anyone ever seen the footage of Richard Whitley when the ferret got him on live TV
Ferret hanging off his finger while he's shaking his hand, blood pis*ing out everywhere?
Priceless!!

The answer to that is no.
Well no if it has been brought up , not dragged.
