I appologise if there's already a thread dedicated to this subject.

YOu need to get a license to trap your own bird.

Hi,
I would assume it would be better to inform the authorities in case someone found it and thought it was being used to trap wild birds.

More crazy laws. how do you define trapping your own bird.
Some birds are stubborn when its time to go home, Is opening the door to your travelling box, throwing in a chick, watching your hawk dive in then closing the door on it, trapping?
Is it not the same thing if you have your travelling box in a field with a bit of string on the door and a bunny leg inside?

dont be daft lol
am guessing you would only need permission if you are leaving a trap unattended and might accidently catch a wild bird

you need written permission to trap ANY bird legally even your own lost or escaped bird.
crazy but true so if you need to do it, do it quietly ( i mean withour noise )

Would it not be easyer if some one would get a regulation copy and post it to the site for every one . Correct me if I am wrong , but I would thing this is not the first time some one needed to trap a lost raptor so your wild life office should have some sort of reg on it ?

I have telephoned DEFRA in Bristol and spoke to various people.
Ken Windsor from PAWS (Partnership for Action against Wildlife crimes), he passed me on. Then Katie, who is also into the laws side of things and said hold on and passed me to Steward Castle of Bird Registration, who said he will find out and call me back . . .
The conclusion boils down to they do not have a clue, YET?

I think you'll find that WW was referring to trapping up your own, escaped bird mate. He's been a falconer long enough to know that trapping wild birds is illegal and totally unnecessary. Not that he'd probably want to anyway.
Has anyone had to apply for a licence to trap their BOP.If so was it granted?

ye i trapped two golden eagles and an ostrich just lasy week
trapping birds is illegal full stop. But if YOUR OWN birds gets lost and you manage to set down some food and "wind it in" without the use a bow trap or other i dont see that as trapping personnaly.
thats what i meant........wouldnt like to make your front page
