Just witnessed an immature wild gos chasing starlings. Is this a common thing? Not used to hearing of them chasing such small birds is all. Just curious.

My bird will not even look at them, but the other day two were squabbling and she took off after them and broke it up!

This one was the size of a crow. Give you an idea how scared the starlings were.

Never seen a faloner flying a Gos at starlings but I have seen a number of wild ones take them in full flight. Feild I fly is loaded with them and I regualy scare the starlings up as I walk twords the back. As they are flying I have witnessed many great tail chases and in air kills by wild Gos Hawks. After seeing these I don't think they would be any good for flying a Gos at for falconry. When these wild ones grab one they just keep going with it, way to easy to carry for a Gos.

This one was a wild one that passed within 10 yrds of me. It didn't end up taking the starling. It was awesome to see it though. I don't want this to sound like one of those "my fish was thiiis big" stories, but it was awesome.

And yea I would have to agree they do not look like suitable quarry for falconry. It was still and exciting flight though.

I flew one of my wild caught male gos on starlings, he did that in great stile.
Yes, it is a problem with starlings cause they are too small, but I first gave him couple of dead starlings, and I tied them to my bag. He start to fly away with them but he stop to do that after short period. And I also put him little bit under his flying weight when we were going on starlings, then he always start to eat emmediatly. I did moust of slips from car or from bike.
This year, my friend is flying his imprint female gos on starlings, and she never try to fly away - I didn't have chanse to fly my imp. fem. on starlings this year but if there will be a chance I will.

Just a note, I have figured out that this is the same gos that has been in the area since last year. Came to realize that I have been seeing it in the area for quite some time and the vast numbers of bunnies and pigeons and doves in the area give it lots to hunt.

Hi Goran!
Maro came yesterday from Dubrovnik to Karlovacwith his golden eagle.
Here is also lots of snow, and his eagle see it for the first time, and he was not thrilled. I had one succesful slip on hen, my gos waits on! Nice flight!
We are going in Cakovec on Saturday. I told you, last time I count 63 hares in one day, 20 - 30 huns and lots of pheasants - hope we will have nice flights!
Legaly that is end of season, on moust of our game, except rabbits but as you know we don't have lots of them.
I will put my female for about two weeks and start with AI proces - you are first on my list!
When will you finish season?

End of February is the end of our season.Up North (2.5 hours drive at my hunting ground) season is open 'till 15 June.Snowshoes there but very hard to hunt even with a gos.The best time is just after the first snow when hares are still brown and in big numbers.Fox, fisher, coyote and wolf feed on hares all year long.
