I went to the doctor yesterday cos i have a bloody sore shoulder and it turns out i have a frozen shoulder which can often take ages to heal :(

problem is its my left shoulder and i cant even carry jester on it now let alone have him land on hy fist.
he is definitely NOT interested in flying to or even sitting on my right hand. (i used one of my bike gloves cos i dont have a right hand falconry glove) dont think its cos of the glove though, i think he just dont want to sit on the right.

has anyone had to get their birds to sit on opposite hand to normal ........ is there a way to get them to do it or is my mrs gonna have to take over the flying and training for a while???

Can you not support your forearm on a thumb stick or something?
I doubt that he will want to sit on the other hand now as he is 'conditioned' to that way of approach etc.

I am left handed and do virtually everything left handed but decided on taking up falconry, that I would practise it 'traditionally', and have a left hand glove and use my right to tie the knot etc.

Hope the shoulder heals soon, or it will be cortisone jabs..............ouch!

first cortisone jab yesterday

i thought about a thumbstick idea as well but i would need a wheel on the bottom of it for walking with.

Jester seems to prefer flying to a perch or the ground for food but i still need to be able to carry him and weigh him and stuff.

yeah im left handed too and decided to practise falconry / owl keeping right handed

It might be the glove Jester, my FHH wont fly to any glove but my regular one, in fact if I want her off a kill super quick I can change gloves and she will let go and jump away. Handy if she's nailed a stoat or weasel, I like to release them (sometimes) lol.

hmmmmmmmm now i need to find a left handed falconer and see if he will let me borrow a right hand falconry glove to see if i can change him

ummmmmmmmm how about if i feed him up and try to encourage him to moult early then i should be fixed enough by the time he finishes. would that maybe work ?? and is there anything i would need to do to get him started??

agree with H4 Jester especially with the owls i have found. they seem to get used to coming in a certain way and to a certain landing surface.

had it myself with diferent coloured gloves and a Bengal. light tan evry time, the green or dark tan no chance.........fussy sod  Good luck with the shoulder

Even tho kadabra is still at early training, she wont come to any other glove other than the green ones i have here. He doesnt mind which hand (cos i have right and left hand one  they are welders gloves) but will not land his lovely little feet on any other ones. so they must all be fussy

hopes you get better soon hun or i'll have to come over and take care of jester for ya

colour definately does make a difference- I tried using a red welders glove with the harris hawks and they wouldn't fly to the fist with the red glove, but as soon as I put the falconry glove on they cam eback instantly...

oops i put 'she' sorry kadabs.
some peeps have the cheek to say they are colour blind  well if they are then they are more snobbier than we thought!! cant have precious tarsi on common gloves :P interesting tho!! has anyone tried the same style of glove but just a different colour?

my bird will come nowhere near me if i aint got her glove on, jester could you not make a sling of some sort so that it bares the weight instead of you'r shoulder.

i agree with SS.i'm left handed and i looked into getting a right handed glove after speaking to a few falconers they said your bird gets used to sitting on one side and i probably wouldnt get jade to come to my right hand. personally i dont see why not.

just a wee bit of useless info traditionaly in medievil times people who were left handed were seen as dimwitted!! mmmmmm not me!

More interesting Blurb!

Left in Latin is "Sinnestri" meaning as i understand it " Sinister" where as right is "Dextra" so in medieval times, you were thought to be a witch if left handed, hense right handed falconry!

hmmmmmmmm that comment is very tempting, but as i am a very nice person I wouldnt dream of answering that times havent changed much

I didnt realise that left handed people were seen as dimwitted or even witchy. i learnt that the fellas has to fight with weapons in their right hand so i thought that they carried birds on their left cos it was a free hand  more useless info but interesting all the same.

I work Khan (GHO) with both hands so he'll man eather but will only fly to the laft as it is been his training . I am shure he could be retrained to fly to thr right if I pushed it ! Jester could to but not as easy.
Years ago when I first started school I wrote with both hands and done about everything else the same , however I had a teacher so back woods she freaked . Made me use only my right hand , tied my left to my belt to make shure of it . Did the same to a lefty in my class ! Now I'am for the most part a righty.
Point is , you can be retrained to do most anything but will it be better in the long run ? Will you wont to go back to the left hand maning or stay with thr right hand ?

Get well soon!!!!!!!

mrs was kind last night and took him in to see me :D
i got my right hand bike glove again and tried to pick him up. Had a bit of a chirp to himself as i put hand behind his legs then he stepped back onto the glove :D and sat there for half hour with no problems at all

took him outside on right and no problems then got him to fly in aviary a couple times to right glove so it seems things aint so bad after all :D :D
