I did try to contact these guys early last year but I got the impression that they didnt have too many members and the club was winding down!

The BFC north west group meet once a month in the flying season and every two months in the summer!

They meet just outside of Preston, Longton

Steve L

I wont b there till 12:30, got me church to go to. oh, I'm easy to spot, I'm the only girl down there lol! (oh, and I always wear a green-fleece!)

Oh yeah, everythings a mes! We have this inspection for a zoo licence, and because of the way the last owners left the place, we are replacing ALL the aviaries (i think) so If your good with wood, or want to volunteer (free drinks) thats kinda fun.
See u tomoz then, will try and find out where this meeting is and when...

Hi everyone!

I didn't realize there were so many ppl from Lancs on this board!

Hawkmaster I think the one you are talking about, is the club that is no longer!

The lancs club listed at the top of the page, as described before, is as far as I know no longer running!

The BFC has a good strong regional group, they are very welcoming to newcomers, like I was last year!!

They meet in the Rams head in Longton near Preston!
Its always on a Tuesday night but the date varies, they try for the last Tuesday of the month but this is changed some times due to other clubs using the venue!

I think the next meeting is the 22nd Feb but I will check this out over the next week and get back to you, if you are interested??

Good to see all you Lancastarians here in good strong numbers!!

Where are most ppl from?? I live near to Kirkham (Preston)

Just spoke to Barry himself and he says it is up and running strongly, although smaller and as it was intended to be originally.

I have registered him and he will pop by and explain all, and hopefully give you more details than I have.

Sorry I stand corrected!

Below is the email i got from them on 27/04/04
It didnt sound good then, hopefully its got better!!

Hello

The Lancashire falconry club is still going but we are a lot smaller now than we used to be, at present there are 14 members. we meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the pub opposite The Sand Knockers, Halifax Road, Small Bridge, Rochdale at 8pm.
We don't have guest speakers any more due to the size of the membership it more of a get together for a few local falconers but you are more than welcome to come along and join us, we will answer any questions and try to help you the best we can.

The Falconry & raptor fair is on 2nd and 3rd of May if you go to the page below it will give you more information

Not again, I used to be a member of the BHA (British Hawking Association) met at the Half Way House pub at Salmesbury with about 40 regular members - this then split to become the Lancashire Falconry and Hawking Club. Use to meet at King Georges pub at Guide, maybe 50 -60 members, then moved to the Haslingdon Cricket Club. More in fighting and the club moved on again and now its down to very few members.

In this time of an anti hunting government if your going to join a club, join one that is affiliated to the Hawk Board.

Steve L
09-04-2005, 07:53 PM
To be quite honest i would'nt join a club id sooner do my own thing

OutFlying

OutFlying

The hawk board which is the organisation that the government listens to and argues our point is funded by clubs.

Adam Barrett
09-04-2005, 07:59 PM
Become associated with the hawk boared would seem to be the answer to me although i dont have a clue how to go about that.

So do you know any of the guys from the lancashire club outflying mate?

Steve L

I dont have transport so cant get to clubs lucky for me my hunting ground isnt too far away from me.

OutFlying

Steve, I've been a member of the BFC for a while now - never been on a field meet yet. Clubs aren't just for people without flying land they do provide other services.
I'm sure someone would be willing to give you a lift if your struggling to attend. Why not give it a try, guest are made most welcome.

Steve L

I dont personelly know anyone that goes to the club otherwise i would do outflying

Jon, I'll think you'll find a lot of the BFC members go to that club as well - is it the North Wales section of the WHC and they also belong to the Cheshire hawking club.

A club is only as good as its members, the people who join with the attitude "what can the club do for me" ? and "how much land will I be able to fly on"? can soon ruin a club - this is what happened to the Lancashire club.

As I said earlier guests will be made welcome at the North West BFC group at New Longton - I went along as a guest at first with no problems. But don't expect to sit in a corner and everyone rush over to you and shake your hand wanting to take you out (if you know what I mean).

The "clickiness" you mention probably exists in all clubs and is usually along the lines of longwingers, shortwingers and harris hawkers. You should be able to find a sub group with similar aims to yourself.

Jon

Thanks outflying, looking forward to going to wales, will you be at that meet? I know what you are saying about clickiness etc. The thing for me is to talk and get knowledge from the more experienced falconer as have the land and i think i would really need to get to know some one to go flying with them as i would not like to put myself on them. Its a shame that happened to the lancashire club.
