Here are a couple of pictures of the quail pens I am manufacturing, if anyone is interested I can make you some of these, the size of mine are 30" deep 24" wide and 12" tall, they have a sloping floor and catch trough at the front for the eggs. For further info dropme a pm,you can get about 18 birds in each, makes cleaning very easy this system

Poor design in my opinion.

You'd make daily management a heck of a lot easier for yourself by having exterior feeders and drinkers. Those will be fouled by the birds quicker than you can blink.

Hi Matt

That is the next phase, I have some troughs coming that will be for feed on the out side and automatic water troughs, but the current ones are very easy, one scoop of food through the top in to the feeder and top the water bowls up with the watering can, it take about 2 minutes to do the 10 cages, twice a day.

I breed a few quail myself. Looks nice enough, but I'd cut a 1" strip out the length of both sides. I'd then have the water trough on one side and the feed trough on the other. With the waterer inside, they'll **** in that faster than you can say COCCIDIOSIS. You'll need something like 1/2" mesh on top of the feed to prevent them from flicking seed everywhere. A few tweaks and you'll have 'er.

Thank for the comments but these cages are version 1, there are troughs to go along the side and automatic drinkers, the picture does not show it clearly but the water and feeders at the moment are not low down and the birds do not poop in them, so this system whilst is not the finished item it is working well.

Interesting.....having never done this before.... 18 birds seem a lot in a relitivly small space. Do the birds have eough space to move around without tripping over each other? How long do they stay in there....

Do you have to incubate the eggs and put them back in at day old's/ bit older or do the females to all that for you???

Hi

The birds have a reasonable amount of space, with the jumbos there are only 12 birds in each one, with the Italian more as they are smaller. The eggs have to be incubated, the chicks are self rearing and just need heat, these are brooded on floor pens with wood shavings as bedding, in quail famrs there would be about dowuble this number in a cage this size.

with a few modifications that you have already mentioned they look good to me.
......hope you dont mind me asking what mesh the base is made from ( gap size & gauge wire) .....I hatched a heap of bobwhites out last few years and kept them on shavings and to be honest it was a royal pain in the ass......

Cheers Rob

PM me your prices please....just the cage not feed bowl/water font. ( not for bobwhite if anyones was thinking!)

Hi Rob

Just sent you a pm, I have now found some perfect auto drinkers for the cages which I will set up asap and take some pics, the mesh on the base is 1"x1" 12 gauge with a layer of 1" x 1/2" 16 gauge just to make the gaps smaller.

Hi All

I have been getting various messages regarding the pens, we had stopped making these as I don't really have time now, but what I can looking at doing if there is enough interest is making a batch up and fulfill the orders in one go, I would need to reprice them but I expect they will cost about £50 to £60 each. If anyone is interested pm me how many you need and I will take a look, at the moment it would be 3 to 4 weeks before I could make them.

I also have some here which are secondhand which are the ones I used to use, I have about 10, if any one is interested for collection let me know and I will work out a price.

Cheers
Lewis
