Ok the yoke's on me !
I was so excited about the large female RT I traped a couple weeks back I gust couldnt stand it.
I figgered I would try something one of the others told me of when brakeing in a new passage " put her in the hawk box(gaint hood) till your ready to work with her each day and she'll come around faster!"
Ok this is a little different then working with her each day in the mews so I desided to try it! Each day for the rest of the week following , I would get ome , grab the glove , open the hawk box and with on problems she would step up to te glove ! This is great! With my long working hours ,it sometimes takes a week or more to get one to stap up this easy , working in the mews. Every thing was going well , she would step up and I would swap the HB jess snap for the glove snap and the rest if the evening we woould watch tv have supper and of course check out IFF.
Seven days later}
This day is no different ( I thought) I get home , get my glove , open the hawk box, she steps right up as before, wait! here comes my dog (if the hawks are eating I can clean up on the tid-bits they drop)dog . This would not have bothered me if I had noticed the hawk box snap was allready off! OOOH NOOOOOO she has some how slipped the snap off the jesses and I didnt catch it in time to snap the glove leash up!
Needless to say I lost her right there , away she goes ,quater mile before she stops high in the trees , a couple min. to have a look around and its off again. I havent seen her sence!
So I gess the yokes on me !
Every thing is not all bad . That was two weeks past sence I lost her . Got the BC ready yesterday , found 3 or 4 hawks flying around one area , mostly hages as far as I could tell, but I set the BC out anyway and kick back to watch about a half mile away.
It was allready 3:30pm by the time I got positioned where I could watch the BC with my bino's. Only about 1 1/2 before dark . I had been up most of the night and it was starting to catch up with me about this time so I must have dosed off . I woke , raised my bino's about 4:15 . I couldnt see the BC on the ridge I set it on so I started scaning the area around with the bino's and there it was at the bottom if the little ridge , something in the BC but I couldnt tell in the tall gress as to what . So I started up the truck and haeded for it (proble a hag) I thought as I was driveing down the road .
I stopped along the road , got out of the truck and ran the 50 yards to the BC at the bottom of the little ridge. Expecting to have to release a hagg. and call it a day.
Well he's no 1300g female but with this being the last day for traping I am happy with the little 1000g passage RT
I'll get a couple of pic's and post them later! :yawinkle:

Sequoya batted off the fist once , that I had to right , him on the first day.
He has been , so far , the fastest learner I have ever worked with ! Batting has been at a minnumal and returns quickly to the glove each time . Besides removeing him from the BC he hasnt tride footing me once. Removed the temp jesses and replaced with anklets and put the bells on while on the pourch today , yesterday for you m8"s . Never footed or batted once .
Interduced him to my jack russel , happy to say , he never batted !
Lost only 50g weight sence trapping and eating out if my hand . I'll give it a day or two before I try jumping to the glove, to gain a little more of his trust.

Holding at 950g Sequoya made his first short flight ( 6 feet indoors ) today several times and has responded well for a new wild RT. Training would go much faster if I had more time but he is comeing along twice as fast as I had hoped!

Sequoya is doing really well at this point . Short flights to the fist very eagerly . still working on casting off , a little rough at the moment but picking up . Not quit ready to take it out side yet .
