Hello everyone !

I am thinking to fly an " large falcon " waiting on mainly on bagged pigeons and partidges, but what I doubth between the male brookey peregrine , or an gyr x peregrine.

I am looking for advices from falconers that flew both the male pere and the hibrid.

I had seen the gyr x peregrines in sky trials and they are simply outstanding, but from what I´ve heard they are very easy to loose, and some have very strange behaviour.

Would you go for the male brookey or for the hibrid ?
What are the main differences between them and why would you recommand one over the other ???

Sergiu...

I like both birds. so its a difficult call, propebly would go for the peregrine. Since you are only flying him at bagged game.

I would fly the male peregrine as i enjoy traditional falconry birds but both are outstanding flying birds

I'd reccommend flying a species of raptor that suits your land and quarry.

Are you saying this falcon will only ever be flown at bagged quarry?

It would mainly fly on bagged pigeons and partidges.
For wild game I can also fly on some pheasents, partidges, magpies...
Pheasents and partidges we have around here, but I cannot provide a slip every day on this quarrys.
Magpies yes but not for waiting on...

But primary on bagged game !

I have also flown here an tiercel saker falcon and a close friend another, we finally both sell the birds since when they start to wait on, on windy days and in good flying weight, there where days they simply fly off and looke for them with the telemetry !

So, no more sakers for waiting on here.

Sergiu I have respect for you as a falconer mate but looking to get a falcon to hunt mostly bagged game well I would really think on this one!
If you haven’t the game to hunt mate there’s no sport in tossing out a baggie.
Not having a dig mate but if you can’t supply a hawk with a certain game you shouldn’t be thinking of hunting one.
Just my own thoughts mate.
PS. I think you would get bored pretty soon hunting mostly baggies. Alf.

Yes Alf you are right !
Sometimes when I see falconers flying theyr longwings, that turn me on and makes me wana fly a longwing even on bagged game, just to see the falcon up there and stooping.

I have also flown bagged pigeons with a male harris ( for conditioning ) it was fun but... after a short while it was booring ! ( the reasone i now fly a spar :D ).

Best regards and thankyou for the replyes !

I'm flying both now. If you want a "large falcon" and haven't flown one before, then start with a tercel peregrine.

Don´t matter any more. I´ve talked with lots of spanish falconers, seen the results of the sky trials and I´ve decided for a gyr x peregrine.
Yesterday got the bird, here are some photos, flying around 740 grams and the pich is around 230 meters high, flown on pigeons and wild partidges.

Best regards and thankyou for youre replyes.

Please put him on a larger block, the jesses can slip each side of the block and he will ruin his tail by trying to free himself in very short time, but apart from it very nice bird, why did the owner sell it if he worked as described?? Did you see him fly?

Hello,

Yes. This perch I will change tomorrow, get the new one.
The falcon was a good friend´s bird, and he get an ascension in his work and have no more time for it, also he fly a female spar and waiting for a male aplomado. That´s why he first telled me he was thinking to let the hibrid and he would like me to have it since we know for a long time and we are good friends ( also flying togheter ), so I decide to keep the bird.

He flew the bird 2 years, waiting on wild partidges and bagged pigeons, taking good piches around 200 - 230 meters high and the best side, withouth going far away to get up there.

Now I´m going to let him finish the molt and start flying.

Best regards!
