Wow... He DID ''beef-out'' good! Much wider in the chest than when I last saw him, and a bit more '' fat reserves'' too, wich is great.
Glad to hear that he's performing to your liking. Merit is to be awarded to the genetics he has and to your training efforts and use of him. Like any trained animal, Ellwood learns and betters himself at each outing... With you, Ellwood can't go wrong!:supz:
I still have to figure out how to post a pic directly and be prepared for a shock (or not) cause Jet is a carbon copy of his older brother :)
Yann

No, the breeder is a good friend of mine. I've been training German shorthair pointers and their cousin breeds for years. I also have trained brittany spaniels but my heart goes to the ''BRAQUE'' breeds.

Told you guys they looked Alike!!! My Jet has a yellow dog tag! Elwood's is silver.
Thanks Faris (ArabianFalconer) for resizing the pics for me... I'm at a loss with computers:cry:
Ben, Elwood is older than Jet by 1 litter (read hear Jet being the baby brother). Pics of Elwood are all posted by Dan, my 2 pics are there by Faris' help. Jet is now 2.5y.o. So that would make Elwood 3. Father is Atila and mother is Kiwi to them both. Kiwi is no longer a breeding female.
Jet is due to get his hips certified this coming month has his breeder plans to use him on a new female (Zilla... see website below) that he got from germany. Benn Vanderhaegen's dogs, as Dan, myself and 2 other friend of ours can certifiy are natural hunters... interest, compliance (no surlyness) and stamina and natural points at a very young age (we're taking 2.5 months old here). Great straight legs, tight paws, great nose, good back, broad shoulders and rib cage. Training is just a matter of basic discipline and exposure, exposure and exposure to game.
Here is the link to Benn Vanderhaegen's website : www.dkvhh.com

Finally Ben Vanderhagen... has a website !
Ben (Wallace) the reason my dog is so in good shape it's very simple...he runs, works and plays every single day of life ! Never been tethered and has been imprinted on falconry & austringry life stuff since he is 3-4 months old. It is not a "sofa" dog or living room dog if you like...
You can have a dog from Yann and Ben's line I recommand you it strongly. BUT I'm also looking to breed Elwood with an other female (wich is a falconry dog bloodline you see) Of course a gun dog can turn out to be a very good falconry dog, no problem, but why not give more chance to it.
Pic shows Elwoods play ground: openland to enclosed forest land, he works them all so greatly. Huns are in good # locally.

It's all a matter of NURTURE vs NATURE right?
Dogs, through selective breeding, have evolved to where they are now : suited to a purpose.
Elwood is indeed an excellent F1 (1st generation) falconry dog, not only imprinted but I'd say saturated with bird of prey exposure while Jet, admittedly, only started to get constant exposure to falconry bird at the age of 1.5.
Dan, do you rememder Heidi? Nice liver and white female GSP. She was imported as a pup to add to the genetics of Benn's line. Heidi was out of a small game-big game line... years of breeding and selection to get versatile GSPs who hunted small game like pros but would also have enough grit to find wounded wild boars and hold it there t'ill the hunters arrive to dispatch it. Benn rejected her as this ''grit'' (too mouthy, dominant even possessive) was undesirable in a small game-live-at-home line such as the one wich produced Elwood. Gritty dogs can be great hunters in the right hands but in a home context... better kept in a kennel.
Genetics sometimes ''boomerangs''... I take for example the ''pointing labs''. English pointers wher eused to give a good nose to labrador retreivers whay back when the breed was created. In the last 25 years (of more not sure), Some breeders noticed the natural urge to make solid, trance-like points in some of their labs. Selective breeding of thosepups is currently taking place (they might be at F8 by now) to make the Trait a steadfast characteristic.
Never will such labs match speed and performance an English setter, english pointer of the GSP and brittanies ... but for a regular Joe who needs a duck dog and sometimes does some upland...hey, not a bad compromise.
Dan's 100% right : you MAKE your dog. Starting off right, with constance, discipline and unweavering effort makes a dog of good breeding into a ''machine'' all would like to hunt with. The opposite is also true. Take the same dog and if you slack or botch the training and everyday life rules.... that same dog won't be worth the bullet needed to put him down (figure of speach!).
sorry if I made this post so long... I tend to go on and on about hunting dogs (don't give a damn about Shih tzus though ... ) . To me there's nothing more fun  than to get to pick a 1st choice pup of of a litter at 8 weeks of age and then remembering how you made that choice when, yeaaaars after, your partner makes you proud.

And your partner Jet sure makes you proud Yann. Jet has turned me on to GSP (the all terrain, all purpose, water and land dog as you put it!) since meeting him, although I'm partial to the liver and white (here's to hoping Jet can throw some liver pups!). The thing I love about Jet is the inability for anything to phase him, he quickly adapts to any task or situation you throw at him, as well as his total loyalty and willingness to please you. Punishment for him is having to sit in the truck while you let another dog have your attention and all the fun. Oh, and I like how quickly GSP dry as opposed to stinky smelly German Shepherds like Freya!
I'm glad I have a friend like you for when it comes time to picking a breed, a dog and for the training!

thanks Helen for the picture of Wet Jet (pun intended)!! Not too dignified with snot and drool over his nose but certainly the all-terrain bad boy he was selected to be!
The more you expose any dog to everything with positive outcomes everytime, the more the dog progresses without knowing fear. Loud noises, car radio blaring, car-truck-motorcycle traffic, shooting, livestock... If everything is normal, then a dog just focusses on the Job : finding the Game.

You're all sooo right Yann,
Also when you have time on your hand to do things right that is where you get your pay back ! Training is time consuming it is not just the breed that does the trick...it is the time you put in aswell. Like with any other living creatures :supz:

:evil:You know when every detail gets covered... every precaution is taken and yet someone gets creative and invents a new way to #$?#?-up????
Picture this. Matt Lieberknecht from the Central Ontario School of Falconry is sending 2 birds to Quebec. The birds were put in very well identified crates. One in Dan's name with infos and his waybill number and one, of course, in my name with MY waybill number.
Birds get droppend off at the Air Canada counter. So far everything is normal.
I get the cal my bird has arrived in Montreal. I get that ''it's christmas'' feeling (woo hooo), drive to the airport (35 mins) and go to Air Canada cargo. I give my waybill and when the box gets to me, SHOCK! It's my waybill and stickers but the crate is well identified to Dan! I ask if there isn't a mistake, an other box... I'am assured that THIS IS my box. okee-dokee.
Turns out that it was not my box. I got Dan's female and....you guessed it, my bird was now in Quebec city. Called Matt to check with him. We're both at a loss trying to explain. Communicate with Dan to get an exchage set up.
I drive 1.30h to Trois-Rivières. Dan was supposed to meet me there but I get his call....the bird was moved to an other flight (My bird WAS in Montreal when I left!!!! ) and got to quebec city almost 2 h late.
Dan got the bird, and drove to meet me. After a coffee , we both hit the road. I reached home at 11h05!
Needless to say that Dan, Matt and I are trying to get compensation from Air Canada. Some of their employee in Toronto obviously needs reading glasses!!!!!
Lucky for us, and our birds, that Montreal and Quebec aren't that far. A mix-up between Mtl and Vancouver would have been disastrous...on my nerves and on the bird!

Ken sent me my hood! A beautyful tooled and tri-coloured El-diablo.
:-P:-P super work in both art, workmanship and service!
It'll be all up-hill work getting him (my bird - Boris) to accept being hooded as he was never been in one in his 2 years of life. I want him to accept the hood as I see it as a great management tool (some people disagree... but an extra tool in the toolbox is never a waste of effort).
So... fat like he is (and molting too) I'll keep Boris free lofted until april and then start general training...
Happy Easter to all

Yann,
I'm affraid it will take much more time to molt...Leave him till at least he has droped all flight feathers @ around ±mid-end July and then start its training
Just a suggestion though.
I sometimes fly birds all trhough the moult for my needs, but...it is not as clean as shoulb be and feather growing during winter will not develop well in my experience even with proper diet.
As for the hooding you will find it very usefull. You can call if you need help.

For those wo have read the previous post i=on this matter in this thread, here's how Air Canada deals with their goof-ups :
I have to sign papers (essentially to say that by accepting the proposed ammount I will never bug them about it again). Their are sooo sorry. The shipping ammount is non refundable no matter what and they give me 50$ for my trouble.
I'll take it and stop thinking about it.
Has anyone except Dan and I ever had this type of situation happen to them? How was the issue resolved???

Hi Yann,
Air Canada Sucks. I have had nothing but problems with them. they once forgot a tranfer permit for a gyr/peregrine female that was shipped tp Bahrain. The falcon was held for 2 days in Germany while they sorted it out. No explanations, no sorrys,...no admition of any wrong doing and no refund. Luckily they are organized for raptors at the airports in Germany,....so she was still feather perfect and sent on.
I have made it my personal mission never to use them for shipping and personal travel ever again. This from a company that my tax dollars have bailed out time and time again. Use Westjet if you want to ship within Canada,...they are great and 1/3 the cost.
As well I am an Air Canada Aeroplan card holder,......recently they stripped 100,000 points from my account with next to no notice,....notice was buried in their junk email. They say it was because of account inactivity? I am waiting for 1000's of other Canadians who got ripped off in similar fashion to file a class action law suit,.....and crush those ********.
AIR CANADA SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Ben Wallace
Yea having had many dogs shipped to and from Kuwait I know Air Canada can be a pain. Honestly if your falcons or dogs are headed to the middle east do yourself a favor and use British airways or the destination countries airline. eg: Emirates for the UAE, kuwait airways for Kuwait , Saudi airlines for KSA, Gulf Air for Bahrain. You could do BA to heathrow and then on to the final destination or switch carriers there, what airline doesnt fly from heathrow? :supz:
Honestly BA has to be one of the friendliest and easiest airlines I know who do everything to facilitate your needs.
Most North American airlines I have to say love screwing you. Everytime I fly back home I happily go through heathrow and will wait up to 9 hours transit (thats what the caviar house in terminal 4 is for!) sometimes andthen on to Kuwait rather then Montreal to D.C. and direct flight to Kuwait. I just experienced so much hassles flying on american carriers and not only through security lol.
