Hi there,
I will buy a harris hawk nowadays and I want to get hood patterns for a female if somebody can send me some. And I wait experienced falconers to talk about this bird:habitat, breeding(I want to do a breeding project with harris hawks) and hunting with them. I try to send some photos from my other birds I kept and flew before. I think this is enough to get started this topic :)

I love talking about raptors as well as a good debate of pro and con's.
Hoods , sorry cant help you there.
Seggestion: Many of us like a little more info as to who we are talking to . This insight makes it a little more personal on a friendly basic.
In your case all we have is "dude".
It's your chose ! Anyway just ask any question and some one will answer.

Nice one dan,

I think what colohen is meaning is profile, there you can fill in age, location what birds you can have etc.

If I can I will help you identify the sub-species of the Harris Hawk. You will find them to be fantastic, sociable birds dan that demand attention on regular basis. You'll surely have some great flights with her. :)

I wait for ur help guys, today I catch 2 pigeons in the city, but the policemans arrested me :D but I can pay them so I ll be free lol, but its expensive 4 2pigeons :D ohh and a nother thing: my FHH is ****in' aggresive to my face, she want to grab my face all the time if she can she'll try to footing me, she do not saw food in my ungloved hand so I donno why she do that, I am walking 6-8h-s in the city with the bird, so I have enough contact with the bird.

Hi,
pigeons are as good as rats. Why do spend so much time with the bird? I think you should not carry the bird more then 2 hourse. She could get agrassive towards you if you force her to spend time with you. Do not carry her when she is fed up. Are the pigeons in town not full of diseases? how do you catch them? where are you in hungria? I have a friend who is hungrien and falconer.

hi Moritz.

I am living at Budapest. I catch the pigeons with my hand by feeding them to my legs and grab all the pigeons I can today I can catch 5 in 30minutes :D

The diseases not too dangerous becouse I kepp my bird in a veryvery good condition! I do not feeding up anything else just the meat and the bones(aslo the feathers) of the pigeon, everything else I throw away what can carry something(head, liver, lung) ! I am washing the foots of the pigeons to get away the dust from their legs than I take them in the deepfreezer for about 1month and no disease can hurt my bird this way :) .

ps: If I carry my bird less than 4-5h-s she do not want to do anything just sitting on one leg, becouse she is not as hungry as I can call her to the fist(I give her a full crop all the time becouse the extreme cold nights here )

Thx for it Griff :)

I take a look on ur site, I do not have money now to buy the hood but its pretty good looking. I just want to know how hard is the hoods material, I like softer hoods with a hard piece right at the eyes to protect them and do not hurt the birds nare. If its too hard it becomes uncomfortable for the bird. Pls let me know how hard is the hood!
Thx

ps: the hoods on the site are very good looking also
pps: if u can send me a pattern of this hood on the pic what u send ;)

Hi Dude

The hood is made from top quality Kangaroo and will not hurt the Harris, I can make it from Eglish kip leather that is a bit softer but strong around the eye. I could also make it from Spanish Tooling Leather that is just as good.

Thanks for comments on my site.

hello Griff,

I was looking the hood on ur site and I see its a good looking hood.
Let me know how hard is the hoods leather? I like hoods what are relatively soft at the beak opening and at the birds nape and throat to be comfortable to the hawk as possible, and hard enough at the eyes to protect them. I just want to know that becouse many hoodmakers make their hoods from a very hard leather.
Thx Griff,
Dan.

-8celsius degree now and she just pull up one of her leg to heat it a little :)

aftert that she comes perfectly :))))

wow, these birds are very social :) when i am eating something my harris want to taste it at all the time. banana etc. than she drop it after she know thats not a good meal for her :) I experienced that before with other birds but the food was always red like melon or other red colored foods whats similar to meat...

I was saw that in one case that a golden eagle jumped to the table from a chair in a restaurant and taste the french fries of her owner, its similar to my case. :)

Do u guys experienced that also with harrises?

...now I am out, go to flying with Aliz :) ....

regards,
Dan. :))
