A few Trophy pics i took this season of my gxp,had more than a few fantastic very big stoops with the wild feller this season.39 head of game comprising of 18 greys,16 pheasant,3 redlegs and 2 mallard. What pleased me most he started to ignore check, especially wood pigeons, ignoring huge flocks on the next field of rape to focus only on me and the dog tipping at the game we flushed, infact on the last day of the season had mike coupe over for a flight with his 2 falcons,i put up my gxp to fly 1 of the 2 cocks well out on a huge rape acerage, took him about 5 minutes to come back over at a dot when an haggard peregrine came tazzing in from nowhere flushing wood pigeon all over the sky,he never tipped a wing or gave them a second look, the dog was actually locked on point on a hen we hadn't spotted until i told her to flush, the stoop was top draw and the point of impact atleast 500 yards away, the hen never new what hit her.The down side of my season was loosing my peregrine,i almost had her only for a buzzard to come in and **** it all up,thats the way it goes sometimes and it wasn't to be.. roll on september.
cheers,
Tony..

Thanks for the collars ryan they came in handy more so when i had a couple of amatures shooting over her, mentioning no names, saved her getting a peppering:wink:,i said i wouldn't take another i would just fly the gxp,but female pere's are my first love and i have unfinished buisness :D,am getting as excited as my pair, there very vocal, bowing and scraping like mad, looks like they will go down early again,i'll see what comes out.
Paul,i kited him for fitness first and second season,he flew high but checked at almost anything, spoiling far too many set ups then he went down with a bad infestation of worms towards the end of his second season and wouldn't fly so i put him down to moult and got him healthy.Season gone i decided to try another method, rather than kite him and fly him tight{1lb 13 to 1lb13 1/2} i never put him on the kite, just cut his weight and put him up,he checked for the first couple of weeks but without killing and always coming back over nice to be served.I also went against what i had been initially told by a guy who flew gxp tiercels one of which was a really good well known one {this is my first},that you can't fly them like a peregrine in a high condition, they will check if flown high keep them tight.I kept pushing his weight up until he was eventually hunting at 1lb 15 ounces, his moulting weight is 2lb 1oz,he would consistantly crank to7/800 ft plus without checking and wait on well even if it went tits up and we took a while eventually flushing for him. It's really come together and gave me the best gamehawking i've had. Due to work commitments late afternoon is my time to fly,and iv'e found flying him high in weight, at high noon, gives me very high pitches and quality flights.
regards,
Tony.
