I think you would be better just ordering one Paul. To make one with an auto remote control would be a nightmare.

There are string pull ones. Are they sold in the UK?

I'm not aware of any bird launchers for sale in the UK. My friend has ordered & received a couple from the USA. The launchers themselves were pretty reasonably priced, but by the time he paid the postage, they were quite expensive.
When he comes back from Scotland, I'll try & borrow one for some plans.

LLL.

Recently, I saw plans for a nifty bird releaser in the pointing dog journal. It wasn't one of those spring loaded devices that cost a bunch. It is a old design used by trainers to plant bird in the field. We use to plant birds by tucking the bird's head under the wing and then stuff it under a clump of grass. This device is basically a wire basket with a tab... when stepped on it flips the bird into the air. Think of one of those trash cans with a foot peddle that opens the lid. No more making the bird dizzy and hoping it will stay put until the dog finds it.

We've got to be a bit more careful over here BD, the laws on using live animals and birds as bait and training aids is a nightmare. I dont really know if launching live birds is legal.
Anybody know??

I made one of these last year. It works great for quail. The only problem I had was the window screen used for the netting. It didn't last long. I replaced it with something else and it's still going strong.

My dog refuses to point anything in a launcher - she knows it is there but guess she knows its not real game?? Although was good for control initially to stop chasing and teach her to drop on the flush

Jimmy I can't remember where I got that link form. But it was someone off either Hawk-l or RapRep, was it you?

Yep, it was me.
The launcher works well. It'll shoot a tennis ball about 30 feet or so in the air. It'll launch a quail about 6 or 7 feet high. Does a good job for the price. I built it to serve my gos baggies.

I've done it...And I'm no techno-wizard or anything.
I didn't go through the first part of the building process as I had a manual launcher to start with.
I concentrated on fitting what I had with the remote trigger system describes on this website :
http://www.scottandjenn.com/etomite/index.php?id=23
works perfect but uses-up batteries at a fast rate.
here what it looks like
