I well after spending a year hawking without a dog and not being able to find enough quarry, I really started to push my wife to let us get another dog.

There were so many conditions:
It must be pretty.
It must be small.
It must not poo all over.
It must not stink.
It must not, MUST not, must not . . . .

And then she saw him and not he can **** where ever he likes.

I also wanted a dog that could point. After loads of research I got Duggy, the Dog.

He is 10 months old and in the last 3 days Phil and I have put up at least 20 to 30 pheasants and partridge with him.

Yes he was going to be used to become a Field Trial Champion but unfortunately for the gent I got him from he let out a small yelp before 'working it on' and therefore would be out of a FT event immediately.

Good for me. He wanted £500 and this was because he was part trained, well mostly trained really or at least it feels that way. He sits, recalls, sort of stops all to the whistle and I have started to hone his quartering and pointing skills. Right now he flushes, but boy we are find game already.

In 3 days we have turned Phil's pursuit hawk into a game hawk, just because we are putting game under her and she is now waiting on well and getting the idea of height too?

He came from a man that flies hawks, but never worked him with them yet. He did 5 to 15minutes per day training, which was all the basics and working scent on flat stubble fields at PACE!

NOW he is mixing it up all over the shop, here is his first GOOD sort of point we got on a cock pheasant, it was only about two foot under his nose at the time of the picture.

The Gos is about the only bird that has not given him a hard time, but then she is just interested in showing me her panties at the minute, I feel lucky this year, now I just need to find some Gos semen close to me.

Thanks Guys! I will keep his progress up I am sure.

Today we started off with two pigeons dizzied at Phil's field and he done well. We also worked his wood for rabbit but found zilch.

This afternoon was the best! We walked into a field to slip the Pere/Saker at a seagull on the opposite bank , had an awesome flight. Let Duggy off and the bird was then on the fist. He flushed a pheasant and then we were really looking and trusting his inexperienced nose and ended up with about 6 to 8 peasants flushed.

Hi Hawmaster

Great looking hound, I have worked with the Brittany before .... a friend of mine in Northampton has one ....she is getting on a bit now....but she never stops always keen (even at her age, 12 ) and when she is on point there is ALWAYS sumthin there...we go out with his Gos's occasionally. His Britt bitch is second to none....pitty she wont be here for much longer :(

OY HAY...Call yourselvs dog knowledgeable...an me a lazy b...d would you   Never seen a pointing collar before?????????????
Dog goes on point collar bleeps, bird hears an comes in over, give command to flush an another goes in the bag!!!!!!!!!!!
Pups collar is a dummy...you dummies   you dont just shove a full weight collar on a young dog an expect it to work. Collar on, dog works, collar off, dog knows work has finished and if its an eager Brit. its a real good 'switch off' or they would work all the way back to the car unless you keep em close to heal ALL the time, an we all like to relax somwhen dont we????

I think you have probably got the wrong end of the stick mate!

I use a Dogtra System.

My last post (wise words) was reffering to Jay, obviously an officianado of training dogs?

I was being sarcastic, chill..

Plus i agree wholeheartedly with what you say about their use, superb!

Hawkmaster, some where in this lot did you say how your dog is bred, it looks the spittin image of my friends. think the only pic I posted of hers was the two Brits in a basket and he was under a year old then. His breeding is pretty similar to my pup, but just distant enough to breed from in a few years time. I do prefer the stockier type like yours, I have seen some real weedy examples at game fairs. Hope mine grows up to be as good looking (in a more feminine way as she's a bitch  )

I thought he was small to be honest but he was bred in Ireland, from the Cliathan Pedigree Kennels. The ower is David Hayes who is the Chairman of the Club de l'Epagneul Breton of Ireland.

Proding around in the barley for pigeons

Jiff
28-04-2005, 09:54 PM
H.M. do i need a stick as big as that before i start my training with warren,
are them white partridge easier to find? theres so much i need to know, joking aside h.m. i've trained plenty of dogs in the past but none to the standared expected with warren i've heard the brittany's are very inteligent are they easy to train?

Hawkmaster
28-04-2005, 10:01 PM
They seem easy, but at the same time, I do not have a clue, but still feel like I am winning.

I was told by the guy I got him from they are and become perfect dogs for falconers and will do everything we as falconers want from them, but if left to do this and not restrained will become wild and unruley in the field, so control needs to be excersised all the time.

Jiff
28-04-2005, 10:14 PM
i'm doing alot of swatting at the minute and most books agree,as with all spaniels control is paramount they will become un-ruley if not satisfied with the work in hand.one book infact emphasises that with the brittany basic obediance has to homed before proper training can commence.
