As long as they're not doing the killing your OK. And if they do and you can prove that you were only trying to use them to flush, you're still ok.

You may hunt rabbit with dogs, but not you may not hunt hares with dogs
You may hunt rats ith dogs, but you may not hunt mice! What are all those Chuihuahua owners going to do from Friday?
Do your bit this Saturday and go out with your local hunt you will not have to travel far.

Won't hear a word of criticism of the motherland...but fair point!
Just been listening to my local radio station and there was an interview with a representative from the South Notts Hunt,
She stated they would no longer hunt Fox but would lay a trail by dragging Fox scent (probably a dead fox I would imagine) thereby nullifying the INTENTION aspect of the new law. The presenter asked 'what if the hounds picked up a trail on a live fox'. The spokesperson stated they had No INTENTION of pursuing live foxes and would try to pull the hounds off but if they did make a kill there would be nothing they could do.
The South Notts Hunt has also entered into a signed document with Notts Police to say they would only drag hunt, which obviously suits all parties concerned (except the antis). This will hopefully cut down on Policing.
On a practical note I know that Notts Police have a mounted section which they 'rent out ' to surrounding forces because other Shire forces have got rid of their mounted section to cut costs. There is no way police can follow a hunt on foot or even in a Landrover so mounted officers are their only solution.
The other thing is the Police have a power to seize any article including horses and hounds if they suspect an offence is about to be committed or has or is being committed. Can you imagine the responsibility on the police to seize and look after a pack of hounds and twenty plus horses whilst the members of a hunt are detained. It is the duty of the police to safeguard personal property of a detained person. Looks like it will be fun if the Police try and enforce the ban at the next proposed events at the coming weekend

they will try their best to police it but we all know the police are well undermanned.....badger baiting & foxing on conservation land still goes on I see it with my own eyes when they are out lamping with dogs for foxes on the conservation land near my house & the police say we will see what we can do & the wardens round here dont work nights.

I agree. It will go on still but more subtly. I recall hearing of the antis "disappointment" when being told that the local forces won't activley police hunts and will only act if a formal complaint is made and then will only seek to find evidence that would stand up in court.
Drag hunts are definitely the way forward anyway. Let's drag one of those tree-huggers for a start...

Hi,
What ban have I missed something: wink:
Listening to some of the antis who want the ban strictly enforced what happens if an intruder breaks into there house and they phone the police to find that know one can attend as the police are busy out policing a hunt: lol:
I think people really do have to get there priorities right, there are far more serious crimes about than hunting with a dog.
Antis claim that there won't be a problem policing a ban because all of the funds which were used to police the hunt saboteurs would be directed to policing a ban, that wouldn't even scratch the surface there’s a huge difference policing a hunt than there is policing a few antis, the antis as far as I’m aware have always been out numbered.
A lot of money would be needed to effectively police hunts throughout the UK, 1,000's of officers plus horses and probably helicopters would be needed, they would also need paddocks for horses and kennels to seize dogs and more room for attaining people that hunt.
Even the police say they couldn't cope with it, where does this leave other crime... Probably un-policed

it all sounds like a whole lot of hassle for the police to enforce, i think there is more likelihood of the huntsmen getting nicked for speeding on their horses! when it comes to getting statistics the police will go for the easy option every time. the huntsmen will be left alone and the motorist will cop it still.
i saw on the news that the government have already admitted that the police will not be actively watching the hunts but rather that if anyone has any grievences about a particular hunt then they should try to prosecute them privately (this puts the cost issue on the anti's) a nice move from the government as far as i am concerned. this wekend will see a shed load of hunting country wide as a protest against the new law
ok the antis have had the law passed but no one is going to enforce it! and if anyone is going to be prosecuted it will be at the anti's expense!
