Feeling good today. The sun was shining, there was no wind, the ferret was working well (no digging) and the harris was following on perfectly.
Took 3 rabbits out of 4 flights and the 1 that got away the bird put in a great flight with a vertical trying to get the rabbit.
The first rabbit caught was a a fairly standard drop out of a hawthorn tree and grab the rabbit as it bolted from the warren.
The second rabbit was again the bird dropping out of the tree but she was about 50ft up hit the rabbit's a*se and got thrown off, she was straight back up and hit the rabbit a second time only to be thrown off again not to be put off she was back at it again a grabbed it by the a*se again but managed to hold on with me shouting "hold on I'm coming". I managed to get in quickly to dispatch the rabbit. Her tail took a bit of a hammering in that 1 as she was dragged about a bit.
The last rabbit was something else. It came out th warren and ran 1 way the bird swooped missed and the rabbit doubled back, the bird came back round chasing after it. As the rabbit went over a stone wall the bird took it. The rabbit dropped over the wall pulling the bird with it. When i got to it the bird had it wings spread out and was caught up in an old rusty barb wire fence holding the rabbit about 1ft off the ground as the rabbit struggled trying to escape. Moved in quickly dispatched the rabbit and then lifted the pair of them out of the fence. I didn't weigh the rabbit but it was a fully grown buck and the bird only flies at 1lb 12oz. Checked the bird over and she seemed fine. No sign of any injury so i let her go and she was back up in the trees following on at about 60ft up waiting for me to put up another rabbit.
Decided to call it a day at that point. Don't want to be greedy.
Like i said a good day. The bird is now sitting in her aviary with some well earned rabbit.
