This was posted on another falconry list.
Friends,
I am extremely saddened to tell you that Kent Christopher died today
after a skiing accident. A service will be held at his house in Rexburg
next Saturday, between 1 and 4. More information will come. Melissa
Rogers circulated news of Kent's accident this morning, and heard from
Vic Hardaswick about his death.
No more thoughtful and passionate falconer ever flew a hunting hawk. No
one has worked harder on behalf of our native grouse and their
habitats. I don't know of anyone with a bigger heart. His most recent
writing about NAFA was trying to promote unity and civil discussion of
issues. We all ache in learning about an untimely and unanticipated
death, but Kent's loss is particularly poignant given the schism and
crisis in NAFA, and the upcoming annual Dubois sage grouse festival in
mid-April, which Kent inspired and organized. This guy was a great
American.
While many of us have been involved in various disagreements over the
years, we all share the same basic values and perspectives as Kent. Now
is a good time to put aside old animosities and come together to move
forward the initiatives Kent began on behalf of our sage steppes and on
behalf of falconry in North America. It's the very least we can do.
