The benefit of Martins "Overlays" are that they allow you to use your daily comfy glove, but cover it with several layers of leather in the form of an overlay.
If the overlay gets ripped to bits, just buy another rather than the whole glove, even make one once you have the pattern?

Varmint what do you recommend for eagles? (mainly steppe, bald eagle, and eurasian eagle owls).

Yes, i use my own personal MJ Double thickness glove then put an overlay on top.
My bald Eagle has pulled the thumbs off a couple but i actually find them ok even for Goldies without the Overlay thumb, so no probs there.
My Mate uses just a thick piece of leather which lays over his normal glove, his thumb sticks thru a hole in the leather and a piece of string holds the leather around the glove at the cuff, works great and he's flying Bonelli's, Crowned and Goldie on it.

hiya, how long does an average eagle glove/overlay need to be?
Also, what leather do you need for an overlay to protect the fist? How many layers etc?
Thinking of making an overlay sometime later, just to see if I can do it (still making a double glove at the minit, fed up of usin 12 1/2" gloves when yo yo the jackal buzzard goes over em lol)

Normally they get to your elbow...
I think 2 layers will be ok, but thickness depends on the birds you're working with... our eagles are not that "footy" (at least not has much as some others I've seen), but if the outside layer it's too soft they rip it very easily...

thanks for that. It'll b for just a female/male steppe and a bald eagle, basically same as u need. I'll have a nosey round for stiff leather, see whats up for grabs lol.
Thx again

Good point about comfy gloves!
Have a look at the Fushetts ( the leather strips between the fingers.
If they are cut straight (like a sausage) they are never as comfy as a glove with Fushetts banana shaped!
Just an observation!
Varmint what do you recommend for eagles
Somebody elses frigging arm :finga:
