Kitty,
This will be worth attending. Sadly things may be a bit somber with the tragic loss of Kent Christopher over this last weekend. Will there be any IFF members there?

I don't know if any IFF members will be there. I linked to the Grouse Partners website after hearing of Kent's tragic death. I hope that have a way to honor Kent at each festival. I know that Kent was pivotal in organizing the festival.

i don't know, maybe it's just me but, how can you have "grouse days" when the season is closed? if they would hold it a few weeks earlier i would probably go as the grouse hawking is not too bad over there. too bad about Kent though.

Kitty,
I'm certain they will honor his life in some way. You are right Kent was a player in the festival as well as the original organization. My family and I were at Ed Pitcher's this last weekend when the call came, needless to say everyone is still stunned. Kent was an excellent falconer and incredibly decent human being, he is loved and grieved by many.

Strange comment, why would we have thanksgiving when the harvest is over, why don't we have it during the harvest when everyone is out collecting turkeys and corn.

If you look at the link, there are outings schedule to observe some leks. The purpose of the festival is to focus on the dissapearance of the breeding habitat of the prairie grouse species. When I was in Wyoming in 1999. I had seen my first lek near Muddy Gap, scouting for eagle. My firt thought when I saw it: What are chickens (domestic I thought) doing out on the prairie like that? (My eastern raised eyes). Then, I realized those were sage grouse, doing their mating ritual. It was a great experience.
