Hi,

I don't know about you but I feel it's a very sad day for the countryside with the hunting ban coming into effect at midnight tonight. Although I don't participate in fox hunting I see no reason what so ever in having it banned. The ban has nothing to do with animal welfare issues whatsoever which I think gets to people even more. I feel there are far more important issues the government should have focused on than hunting, what about crime and health issues.

Next issue for the antis seems to be shooting where will it end!!!

By midnight fox hunting will be illegal - Just try telling the hounds that

A sad day indeed!

And not just for the hunts but also for the fox's, after all we all know more effective methods of control?

We like to think that we are getting so sophisticated in this day and age!
But where will it all stop?

Just think of all the hounds that will either have to be cooped up or put down. all the horses standing doing nothing. The least the government could have done would have been to do something about the animal problem.
I bet the way the animal activist's will go, we'll all become vegans or something like that. Grr!

The antis say that they are going to film the hunts to prove that they are still hunting.
With the new laws regarding protecting your home and property, are they not going to be tresspassing if they are on private land? and if something happened to them, they shouldn't legally be allowed to be there. Also the footage wouldn't then be submissable in a court of law.
The news last night on Meridian, said that the antis were going to go for the game shooting next. They even showed on the news, a shoot taking place. 2 felled pheasants that were still flapping about and an injured one being chased down by a dog!!!!!! Not good reporting to my mind.

On a show last week it said that there has been around 600 hours used of governments time on this ban, about the same as the war in Iraq

just a quickie saker they aren't new laws these law about reasonable force to protect your home n property have been in place for years but people have still been prosecuted theres a fine line between reasonable and excessive force. although i think since the recent media coverage the courts will look more favourably on the homeowner. if the antis are filming from public footpaths etc dont know if theres a lot anyone can do about it!!bloody antis! they really are so ignorant! i definatly wont be votin labour. everything with them are double standards. cutin down on binge drinkin but passin a law enabling pubs to open 24 hours. gambling ministers were talking about making the teddies in teddy bear machines smaller so to put off children from gambling. then passes laws to open vegas style casinos. how petty

Hi All,

On the ITV news this evening - Why did the antis turn up today?

They knew hunting was to be banned so why turn up and antagonize the situation, To my mind it just shows that all they want to achieve is cause trouble and incite violence, there are proper channels and more effective ways of protest than causing trouble they do no good for there cause if they behave in this way.

Very good point there Saker-Sucker. I feel the media has always been biased and portrayed hunting in a different light than it actually is, everyone seems to have an opinion on hunting but I personally think a majority of the people who are against fox hunting and other fieldsports are dramatically influenced by the media.

the answer to this now is this
anyone who partakes in "drag hunting" either as part of the hunt or an observer be forbidden to bring any form of photographic or filming equipment. this way any evidece is severely reduced.
I think we as falconers should take a good look at what has happened here. Photographing our birds with kills is one thing but i recon filming kills should be avoided..
the media and the anti's are only going to use it against us

i can see it now all these hounds beagles etc moving being homed with families how long before these dogs start killing pets??? or being put down coz they cant be homed?? plenty of media coverage there! has anyone heard of any antis reaction to the fact that the majority of these dogs may have to be put down!!! how many thousands! damsight more dogs being put down than foxes bein hunted and killed. now the hunts will be using guns to despatch the fox wonder how long before an anti gets shot!!!!

Hi,

I think this just goes to show what problems this law will cause the government and the nightmare the courts may face, this ban is totally ill written what does this mean for future imposed laws in fact I feel the government are causing people to undermine the law, normal law abiding citizens are being forced to defend there way of life, it used to be the case where this country defended and would represent a minority it is no more :(

Ban what Ban !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hunting stopped in the 2 world wars and the foot and mouth crisis.

The hunting season will finish in a couple of weeks then alot of water will pass under the bridge before next season. We will get this law repealed even if it takes 5 years.

Some hunts will close down, but most will carry on regardless but hunt within the law. Within the law

well the people of the UK put the government there !!!

and if there is 59 % of the population pro-hunting......labour should be pretty worried at the momment....

Me and the missis went to the High Peak Harriers Hunt at Bakewell. We have not followed this hunt for a couple of years but were late setting out for our usual location. The HPH had a later start time.
Got there 30 mins or so before the start and noticed a gent with a female African Tawny Eagle. Believe his name is Ian if anyone fellow falconers recognise him. I know his second name put I will not post it here incase any antis are reading.
Weather was fine, cold and dry, everyone behaved in a dignified and civil manner and I didn't see one Sab.
A fine day and a fine show of defiance by the 50 or so riders and 100+ supporters.

Mind you not sure if the eagle was impressed?

in truth that worries me because its a clause they can use to get around the ban. brings us straight into the firing line and is a little self centred of the hunt master in my view.

If the ban makes it illegal to hunt with dogs, does that mean you can still hunt with a pack of bitches???

I have to kind of agree with you wight wings!

When I first heard about the hunting with an eagle I was worried that this would give the antis something to get at us!

But we do all need to stick together on this, and hope they will help us should the need ever arise!

I did hear the master ask if the Tawny Eagle could take a fox?
I think though it was a show by the owner of the eagle whom I gathered was a guest of the hunt that all involved in hunting should stand together.

So its band, why does that mean hunting will stop? If they banned falconry i wouldn't stop, might stealth around a bit more though hehe

also, if they got hold of videos of a hawk on a rabbit then it being dispatched, so what? show them videos of where there burgers come from and win the argument hands down.
