What difference would the outcome be if one had a Gyr/Peregrine or if one had a Peregrine/Gyr.

So it one was to cross a Coopers Hawk and a Spar would that be the same as a bird done the other way around?;)

Mmmm I am not sure it would something tells me that things would change somewhere.
We know the economics of why say Gyr semen goes in to a Peregrine and not Gyr semen in to Peregrine.
One could have a small enterprise with it the way it is done, one Gyrkin and say four or five female Peregrines giving you Gyr/Peregrines but after buying a Peregrine semen donor one may only have one female Gyr for the same outlay hence less eggs less money.
But would the resulting hybrid be the same?

i have had gyr/peregrines and peregrine/gyrs== no difference that i can tell. now 3/4 gyr peregrine(1/2 gyr/1/2 peregrine/ pure gyr now that is not a hybrid i would try again, wound a couple of wraps too tight for me(i was warned about this). 1/2 peregrine 1/2 gyr/ peregrine now that is a pretty good cross.

I have heard it said that if the father's species is smaller than the mother's species, the foetus in the egg does not grow enough to eat all the egg contents as it grows, and that when ready to hatch it tries to breathe air and drowns in uneaten egg contents.

I have done Gyr and Peregrine both ways round The female tends to control the egg size so the Gyr into Peregrine tends to be smaller. Its not done much as Gyrs being worth more money than Peregrines its better money wise to produce pure Gyrs in the same way Gyr/Peregrines are worth more than pure Peregrines (and easier sold) so thats why most with egg laying imprint Peregrines put the Gyr in.

the peregrine fund did quite few of these hybrids both ways around(gyr-peregrine) over the years and there was no statisticaly significant difference in the size of the birds produced--they kept very good records of this, I will see if i can get some of this data.

Jim,
don't go spoiling things for us in the UK --- we much prefer rumour and inuendo to statistically supported evidence here you know:lol:
Best wishes,
Tony.
