The Spanish falconry is mourning today since we have sadly learnt that Aurelio Perez passed away yesterday morning.
Aurelio was a great falconer and an outstanding person in all senses. Together with Dr. Rodriguez de la Fuente, for whom he worked as falconer and naturalist, both worked in bringing the spaniards' attention to the treasures the fauna of Spain had to offer, and awakened a sense of respect and concern for our natural habitats that the country had never felt. They were responsible for the documentary series "El hombre y la tierra", producing such memorable footage as the scene of a golden eagle taking a wild goat or the recently seen on this forum fight between a goshawk and a booted eagle. Without the work of this outstanding couple falconry wouldn't have reached a third of the popularity it enjoys today.
He always tried to help novices and with his humble way of telling the most amazing recolections and his encouraging words towards those new to the sport he made everyone feel the falconry world as one of friendship and mutual help.
We will miss you a lot, Aurelio.
